thc only hope of even a five year cure we all knew at his age that was it rlhk but 11 seemed the only way he was taken to calgary ocneral hospital on february 0th where under a skilled specialist he had the first port of the operation performed it was successful as for as it went but owing to his age and condition he dld not recover as quickly as they had hoped this in spile of- three blood transfusions donated by three of the young people of crescent heights united church the lrans- fuslons saved him at that lime so later ihe doccof did a tampntary operation and sent him home april 13th thinking he would perhaps regain strength more quickly in the atmosphere of home- in stead of hospital and later go back for the rest of the operation and this we fondly imagined to be the- case he did pick upjkxengh after coming home so much so that in a weak or two he was able to walk about tha house without assistance except of his cane the beau tiful goldheaded cane the gift of the methodist church when he left acton in 1017 u will always b a cherished memento howtvtr the winters strug gle together with his advancing yean was too much for even his strong heart and on sunday may 1st he was seen to be troubled with distressed breathing and when the doctor came on the mon day he told uj it was the beginning of the end as his heart was giving out the next ten days were ones of dis tress and mostly unconsciousness though he was rational at intervals and in these times was exceedingly blight and clear last saturday he wanted to know if tub acton fbkx patsa had come we said no it would
