calls to beckon those of sixteen years there ore many temptations to abandon the studies and step almost immediately into industry which is pay ing good remuneration for unskilled help and war production which needs the assistance of everyone to meet the need it is well for young people at this age to also take into consideration the fact that properly trained help is always of more value than the unskilled variety nnd much better paid both during war time and in peace time jobs are plentiful now lor the unskilled only becnuse of inability to secure trained assistance when the period of competition comes for position those who have fitted themselves for special tasks will have the dill over the unprepared at the opening of the fnllterm of schools there is a wonderful opportunity presented to all stud ents to apply themselves with more diligence in their course that they may be the sooner fitted to take their place in the ranks of trained workers who are always in demand canada and every country will always have a place for such trained workers either in time of peace or war history has proven that the periods of peacetime are much longer than the periods of war with its abnormal demands v only tola war where it doesnt hurt announcement was made recently of an increase in the price of beer in ontario and beverage room ietors will have to secure new smaller glasses lsdles work section has been revised as well as the school childrens section and additions made throughout to aid and encourage war work in adultsaod children acton fair and every local fair can and most are doing a real job in their 1042 effort it is dif ficult to organize and maintain such institutions in these days whenso many voluntary workers arc busy with other war efforts it will be difficult for many farmers to prepare exhibits but these diffi culties can be overcome and real satisfaction attain ed in showing of advancement made to meet catw adas wartime needs j we ore hoping this year that the splendid manu facturers exhibit of lost yeor will 6e enlarged upon ind that visitors to the fair will also have an oppor tunity of viewing the things that acton is doing in an industrial wtty many fully occupied in their own particular work do not realize the production of those in the same community and so the acton fair provides a time not only to renew acquaintances with friends but to become acquainted with the products of agriculture indus try nnd the world right nbout us success of the fair depends on hie pnrticipntion of the widest pos sible community your community fair is in two weeks on september 18th and j 0th participate and enjoy its success this yenr v follotfuie leaders one who did not mean to disparage theefiorts of men and women in canada now giving leadccehip in this country during wartime declared recently cnnndns true lenders nre the boys in uniform who arc fighting on the sens and overseas few will argue against that opinion good leadership embraces the ability to inspire a people to higher achievement and there is nothing so in spirational as a good example in all the selfdenial and hard work required from us at home we are inspired by our gallant lead ers who scour the ocean to protect our troops nnd war materials who sweep the skiefrto shelter our homes and industries and those who dash into en emy territory to crush the heartless wretches who plunged the world into war each of those cnnndinn lenders overseas hns vol- untnrlly offered to stop living if necessary thnt we mny live each has turned his back on chester the girl out to n dnnce ench will work twentyfour hours at a stretch when called to do fio no canadian soldier puts a limitation on the ex tent of his service he is truly going nil out for victory withsuclriendersrcnnadians will nor fail in any task ahead what canadian father would drop his tools nnd slow up war production needed by his fighting son overseas how many canadians will deliberately spend money for comfort and amuse ment when that money is needed so desperately to give pur soldier leaders overseas flic inst bit of equipment they need to conquer the enemy as- we read the names of scores of young men who suffered and died on the beaches of dieppe how precious few of us will want to withdraw our money from the war chest in order to have a good time- with it or to spend it on goods thnt will make our ownlives more comfortable v go ahead folks the main reason why many towns do not go ahead is that there nre not enough p in those places who are willing- to take the lead in
