is 32497968 there are 746 mites of roads and streets m the county assessment figures in ha i ton are a bit con fusing the figures under the new assessment plan are given for acton mi hon and nelson where the work is complete in the other municipalities the new assessment is not finished and the old figures are given te me e need need of a more flexible system of county assessment has been evident for some time a county equalization or adjustment every twenty eight years is not sufficient in a county such as ha i ton where conditions change drastically in northern and soul hern sections and rural and urban populations and growth need of change was found by north halton district school board ir the temporary adjustment of levy recommend ed after study by the board at a recent meeting the hope has been that the new county assessment which was adopted in this county would have righted this county levy iooner the longer it is delayed the more aggravated the situation becomes if acton milton and nelson can have the work done at this time there seems little excuse for the rest of the county to delay the work unduly and surety the other mumci palities can complete their work this year the fault in the old method of equalized county assessment was the fact that the estab lishment of equalization figures soon became obsolete and that preparation of new figures was too costly if the new plan does not overcome these faults it too will be a failure it is to be hoped the new system in halton will show each year e true picture of assessment figures for both county and local purposes we realize the task of putting such a new plan into effect is a big one but we are a hopeful the work will not be delayed so long that its purpose or use fulness will be lost and its cost to the munici palities be greater than the old system of equal lation the only assessment system that will be satis factory is one that shows values as they are at present and keeps those figures reasonably close at all times figures of a quarter century ago are obsolete and requiring years to rectify them is not helping or making a hearty endorsation of the new plan ly below normal almost inevitably whenever crop control is eriempted that ii the result wot only does nature refuse to cooperate but the average grower doesn t either when ordered to cut acreage he naturally takes his poorest land cut of cultivation and is able to give greater attention to the rest ctopreioioir recollections ot acton iczocrdtfotfcslfollcziorzza ontario butt reaenled the ontario budget was presented
