temperature nnd humidity had both the exhibitors and their live stock with their tonguex hnnrlnu out the competition in both the hnlstein nnd guernsey rings wan in keepinii with the weather ac cording to the official cntnlotfuo we note thnt no less than 3ftx hoi steins nnd 200 guernseys were en tered the guernsey nhow was definitely the largest on record for this province and the holstcin ex- hihit if not the inrttest wm very cloie to it in comparison the jersey anil ayrshire exhibits were amnll but the auntily in both cases compensated for their lack of numbers hahon was represented only in the hnlstein nnd guernsey rlnrs and consequently we will confine our report to these two lmeds hoihuiiu here hahon was well and worthily represented by entries of the herds of ii c alexander chat austin vernon archer dr paul beer a m brain nnd sons f o hunter t h mcgee and john schortzl of esqucslna township ashvllle farms ltd a g hunter m c sherwood nnd hoss scrs- worth of nelson township hays ltd c h lawrence and j f trimble of trafnliinr township and what a job they did hnlton may well proud of their black and white contingent along wilh those mentioned above we would also include the name of w h robinson of hornby whose coa tribution as a showman was par excellence the highlight of the holstein show for many is always the in- terceainty herd clnss each county entry consisls of six animals namely a senior bull a junior bull two senior females and two junior females in all ten counties were represented which brought together 00 head in the ring at the one time the hal ton entry maintained their standing in former years by placing second to the perennial winners from peel but what a scare those peel hoys got in the opinion of goodly percentage of the ringside the halton entry was the best balanced nnd most uniform herd in the ring but all honour to our peel breeders they got the judges decision and that is what counts along with that they are a grand bunch of fellows and they haw a lot of outstanding cattle after all rosafe farms of bramp ton won the premier exhibitors award and j m fraser of streets- ville the premier breeders banner from the latter herd spring farm fond hope was the grand chnmp- ion- bull and spring farm juliette also repeated her triumphs of former years by winning the fe male grand championship to gether they made up the winning progeny of dam forts their club herd placed 2nd yorksimcoe club being first nnd brant in third the awards listed above should not he interpreted as a complete list of the halton wins but we feel we have listed sufficient to indi cate why halton may well be proud of those who represented them in both the guernsey and holstcin shows at the 1952 canadian nat ional heartiest congratulations are extended to them all in taturefl green this past week it was our good fortune to pay a brief visit to the farm of dr wm james lot 1 sixth concession ksquesing there are many nice things which might be said of this farmstead managed by jim mckay the farm li tidy the buildings well painted the weeds under control and they have some outstanding angus cattle to the writer however the highlight is the renovation which has taken place towards the hack ofho farm down in the creek hat as we recall when jim mckay came to manage the maiden farm a few years ago for dr james the flats were overgrown with thorn trees and weedsj and the grass was negligible today the thorn trees have disappeared the flats have been plowed zintl reseeded and what a pasture well go and jiec for yourself in our opinion it is the most productive area on the entire farm and as those who know the farm will agroethe remainder dead stock dajjd and crippud farm animals ramovod promptly for sanitary disposal telephone collect georgetown
