police chief len browns annual report coun- cillor fred tilley stated nt inst weeks oakville council meeting the department was operating nt i better than 100 per cent effic iency as he noted there had been 34 children reported lost and 35 found during 1955 i the reason for thev discrepancy i wondered when we in this in the numbers was explained b corner of the globe would start corporal peter dcvenishv tucsdtav hearing about storms on the sur- i it seems he escorted a group of face of the sun juite a while ago oakville children on a tour of tjio i read in an english magazine that j canadian national exhibition last our little planet was likely to year returning to oakville at the perience a series of atmosphenc end of the d duke of devonshire chapter here reviews year in annual text of the report la reprinted here in full ethiopia by mrs rtngler joe a series disturbances because of thee sot ar storms well judging b ltst weeks weather the series seems to have started all right and we dont care how soon they quit actually the weather is fino he was amazed when he counted an extra child alighting from the bus singling out the added oungster the corporal asked where did you come from to which the child replied oshawa how just now i have just come in at- dld vou to on our blls ter roaming around outside and the air was lovely crisp and cold and birds were singing as if the were confident the storms were over and good weather on the wav h 5 ho d birdsr renghtrgak pnl and returned nobody want a repetition of last fridays freezing rain of course i had to go down town that day to a funeral no less for that- little trip i called j taxi and got a ride home with a neighbor i wouldnt let our i while she with us our tel- ncighbor drive me up the lane be- evision sot a rest except for cause i was afraid he might slide press conference and the into into the ditch so i got out of the new scast hich she sranoi to en queried the officer oh i vc been with you all afternoon was the reply the voungster was taken bv to toronto where she was turned ov er to exhibition police it is under stood the little traveller arrived at her oshawa home safely ary sponsored trip to ottifwu calling it an adventure m citiz enship a representative of the st johns ambulance societv gave tn verv timelv ileihonstiiilioh of just recently this venr we were j t ncw piethihl of nrtifieuil res- saddened by the pnssing of one of pi rut ion our most devoted and fiiltliful i members mrs petei smith slie i will be gieatly missed to endeavor to make oui new l canadians conscious and piouil of their new cttuensuip we uie n i iuuirtyto present them with citizenship onth this yeat the chapter entertaujvdftie basic kiik- lish class with lunch following its last session in the spruik i during the year a repiesentut- ntive from the chapter atteiuul meetings in town of the new parks committee the chapter sponsored a tir day for the blind with the sen ior girl pupils of the public car at the road and there i vv as absolutelv scared to take a step farther up there was crunch now either side of the lane if i could onlv get to it but that v is ana men t saw partner a big it coming dow n the lane to meet me was i ever glid i might have been on the toe vet if he hadnt appeared on the scene before the ice storm there was certamlv plentv quite a bit of activ itv around here that discussion what with visitors insurance ar- ents and real estate men coming along irving out their persuasive powers with partner and while the veather was good ourbarn- yard population vv as considcratok- reduced johnnv arrived one dav jov as fijr ourselves we are stil exploring the telev ision field find ing much that is good and some that is bad like the little girl with the curl when its good its verv verv good but when ttv bad it -s- horrid and i do mean horrid we thought the auto mation panel discussion vv ith dr fromm was splendid there was for the mind in countrv calend ar we think it nuild do with a little less talk and a little more action omnibus is vvoiulerfal but some of the half hour dramas are positivelv inane however te levision has a terrific audience there has to be varietv ahvavs and took his four heifers back i remembering that one man s meat home the next dav w e sent a veal calf to market and then we sl anotcer one to take its place the hens were laving particularlv well but because of the lev roads the egg man did no collect the eggs can t sa that i blame him after all who would want to take a chance on sliding off the road with a truckload of eggs and then as if the ice storm wasnt enough to deal vv ith our cats and dogs sot into trouble just to relieve the monotonv i suppose it was this wav black joe picked a fight with a stra feline up in the barn and between them the upset a small open can of crankcase oil all over them selves oil that partner uses to paint the hen roosts ind then joe came to the house for smpath and first aid now 1 ask jou what could a person do for a poor lit tle pussy cat plastered with crank- case tjir it couidnt be washed i off coal oil might have helped but what would the coal oil haxe done to the poor cats skin the best i could do was to rub poor joe with an old towel and then i had to put him outside be cause we couldnt stand the smell of him around nor could i hac him leaving an oily patch behind him wherever he sat finallv fi the next few days joe did what a cat always does licked himself clean in doing so he also made himself sick so that he couldnt eat now thank goodness the oil has disappeared but so has a lot of joes fur the next excitement was caused by rust who ran into the house bringing w ith him an odor of skunk fortunatcl it wasnt verv strong so that with fresh air and by rolling around in the snow rusty got rid of the smell- while all this activity was going on ar ound with our various we had a visitor from toronto for a couple of days a visitor who liy ea in a well appointed apartment where cats and dogs are unknown we managed to protect her from contamination is another man s poison and lhat it is entirelv up to ourselves whe ther or not we watch any parti ular program stop press news partner jn t looked in to tell me that spi inc is on the wav he just saw a crow fly over now vv ho are we to trust the crows who think that spring is in the air or experts who tell us that storms on the sun are going to have a bad influence on the earth s weather pattern for the next few months it mav be wish ful thinking but 1 11 put m faith in the old black crow after all he has quite a bit of backing because downtown someone was telling me a robin was seen last week may be the robin and the crow had a little conference and decided that- grade 13 we mortals needed a little cheer ing up about the weather getting better kitchener ont cp a pullet on a farm here laid its first egg the size of a robin s eggs two and three were normal and the fourth w as a big doublev oik
