uetprtthis year in place of the classes the men jan an increased swimming pro gram for the park next yearthcy plan to provide instruction and sufficient classes to accommodate everyone it is also their hope that they may in cooperation with the parks commission be riven an opportunity to improve the swim ming facilities there for a number of years now the ys mens club have sponsored these swimming classes nt guelph ymca during the winter the ys men provided transportation and paid for instructors so that the boys and girls in acton could learn to swim the numbers have crown trem- endously this year there were 60 graduates from the summer pro gram in the park looking forward to going to guelph to complete their instruction there were a number in this age group who for various reasons were not register ed in the class last summer who would register in addition to this there is another group who were too old for the summer class who were also looking forward to go ing guelph y moa is only avail able for two nights each week with maximum accommodation for 30 each night it was obvious that everyone desirous of going could not be taken the ys men felt that they did not have the right to deny anyone the privilege the club therefore unanimously decid ed- to discontinue the project the decision was made at the last meeting of the ys mens club last thursday evening paul chukavorti of calcutta in- dia addressed the club he is bus iness secretary on the national council of ymcas in india and ceylon he has been in the united states and canada studying bus iness methods in the- ymcas here to apply in india he has been here for three months and is returning in three weeks he spoke to the men on the y mca in relation to the froe in- tan republic and pointed out the part the y plays in training lead ers especially in physical educat ion and agriculture he was introduced by bob bra shaw and thanked by clarence rognvaldson who presented him with a letter opener warm days bright sunshine is served fottncftarr summer indian summer during the past week has brought- delightfully warm weather to this district and most parts of southern ont ario even tle nights have been relatively mild for october over the weekend the ther mometer crept to the high 70s northern ontario has been as warm or warmer many farmers and gardeners are reporting un seasonable growth of some berry bushes leaves are coloring but lack of snapping frost has kept them on the trees longer than usual there are many other charact eristics of thjs warm indian summer but probably the hap piest ones are the rays of bright sunshine which seems more in evidence than during this years damp cool summer ys menettes club organized the ys menettes club has just been formed to assist the ys men in their work the newlyorganiz ed group is not a separate money- making endeavor but was created to coordinate the work the wives of ys men are already doing their first project is making favors for an upcoming convention the first organizational meeting has been held with mrs mary mc- kenzie elected first president of the group mrs kay lidkea is vice- president mrs vivian smith secre tary and mrs ruth leatherlund treasurer meetings are the first thursday of each month annual fee is 2 the ladies decided the next meeting is november 1 at the home of mrs lidkea and all ys mens halton liberal name k y dick candidate m federal election m kenneth y dick milton lawyer unanimously chosen halton liberal candidate at the nominat ing convention of halton county liberal association friday evening in milton town hall named to represent the liberals in the next federal election the 40 year old lawyer is backed by terms on municipal council school board and as warden of jhaltotl- two other nominees foxthe post councillor peter waters of oak- ville and ruddy whiting oakville declined to accept the hon james sinclair minist er of fisheries flew in from ot tawa to address the capacity aud ience of 300 the hon walter har ris originally scheduled to appear was unable to be present the minister reviewed the prin ciples of what the liberal party stands for and noted it was the only truly national party since it held majority representation in canadas four or five national ar eas its not the liberal party that has made canada a one party country its the voters he declared gas co permission to lay a four inch gas main across bronte st in trafalgar just north of no 10 side road permission was also granted the cnjt for a rail siding cross ing the guelph line to serve the proposed international harvester parts depot on the east side of the guelph line road north of the oakville subdivision a motion of nelson representat ives adkins and walker also asked that thdeounty engineer bring in a report of details and estimated cost of installing aprpoximately 500 feet of culvert drainage instead of the present open type ditch on the east side of the guelph line from glen
