article is reprinted here in full robert mclsaac sprowrl known to most people as mac one pf the new members on the provincial executive this year can boast of being o fourth generation member of one of halton countys pioneer fatalities macs great grandparents came to canada from scotland and settled in the acton area in 1820 the sprawls 165 acre farm is now jossied one quarter mile from ac ton so head of shorthorns are kept on the farm for five years mac was a mem ber of 4h grain clubs taking part in the interclub competit ions at guelph in 1947 he has also taken part in many junior farm er livestock and seed judging com petitions in 1861 he was a mem ber of the halton county team r that placed third in the junior farmer judging competition at the royal winter fair in 1951 sy and 53 he judged at the cne junior farmer competitions mac received his education at bannockburn public school and acton continuation school not content with that he attended night school in milton where he studied farm machinery farm business and farm mnaagemerit debating and public speaking he has also taken two short courses at oxac the value of such training was obvious when he took part in the halton county public speaking and debating competitions in 1055 when he was selected as a member of the county debating team acting as leader of the affirmat ive side this halton team jwon the junior farmer provincial de- bating championship when they eliminated carleton county dur ing the provincial conference in march this year music and drama are also among his interests since the days when dressed in his kilt he sang at loc al schools and churches mae has always been interested in music aad has taken part in many piano and singing competitions for the past four years he has been a member of the halton junior farmerchoir in 1952 he was group leader of two halton jun- ior farmer square dance sets both of which reached the finals in competition at the royal winter fair his interest in drama began while still attending acton contin uation school then in 1954 he par ticipated in the county juniors drama festival as a member of the cast of actons play the special guest fond of sport mac played bas ketball hockey and softball at high school for four years he played hockey for acton junior farmers in the halton interclub league the acton team of which he was a member won the county championship for 195455 frequently introduced as n world traveller mac claims he has walked on the soil of 10 other countries as well as travelling canada from the pacific to the atlantic in 1951 he was a mem ber of the lincoln county bus trip which toured the eastern un ited states in 1953 he toured michigan the following year mac was awarded one of the two nuffield scholarships offered annually to canadian farm youth this entitl ed him to spend six months in great britain studying agriculture that year he travelled in england wales scotland northern ireland eire belgium germany switzer land and france since his return he has travelled across ontario from owen sound to kemptvillc showing slides and talking about his trip to date he has shown them 75 times before a total aud ience of about 5300 people since joining the acton junior farmers in 1s46 mac has held many offices including that of secretary treasurer president and press reporter in 1s52 he was elected president of the county association and later became county director to the provincial association at the annual meet ing in march this year he was el ected to the provincial executive he is also one of the representat ives of the junior farmers as sociation on the ontario federat ion of agriculture board despite all these junior farmer activities mac has found time to take an active part in other organ izations in the community in 1953 he served as president of acton fair the youngest in the province that year he is also second vice- president of the halton federation of agriculture a director of the halton crop improvement assoc iation a member of the acton l ol and a member of the acton rotary club he is a member of knox presbyterian church acton and belongs to the young peoples society the sprowl home has been n busy place during the past 10 years maos younger brother cal vin has also taken an active part in junior farmer work and has held every office in the acton clubjute often both mac and cajvin are away at the same time at church or junior farmer events local county or provincial mr harris recommended that all bell customers should discard last years issue and start
