hem pxe halton junior farmers 4h clubs plan summer judging competitions descendants of irish pioneers stage reunion at eden mills several events are being planned f or junior farmer and 4h mem- ben in halton county during the summer months the programs are being sponsored by the halton junior farmers association the halton 4h club leaders council in cooperation with the halton office of the ontario department of agriculture three events are planned for july an event that was started last year for the junior program is the halton land judging compet ition this competition stresses the value of land use and provides contestants an opportunity to view various soil structure prize mon ey for this competition i provided by the credit sixteen mile creek and twelve mile creek conserv ation authorities livestock judging the halton livestock judging competition is being planned lor late july and always has consid erable interest with the junior farmer and 4h members thi plan to participate in annual field day years competition will be held at the ontario agricultural college i r gueiph in vwuton to the judging j halton jr rarmers program through the cooperation of the animal husbandry depart ment then will be demonstrations on livestock work the county executive of the halton junior fanners associat ion are completing arrangements for their annual midsummer dance this event is held annually and this year arrangements are being made to hold the dance on friday july 31st at the hutton- vllle park english visitor highlighting this year s program will be the irlslt of miss dorothy clbugh of yorkshire england one of the delegates representing the english young farmers associat ion miss clough will be visiting halton oounty and the midsum mer dance will provide an- oppor tunity for junior farmers in hal ton to meet with the delegate i hatton cohhity 1 weed control news v e mcarthuru county weed inspector wild morning glory several farmers in halton coun- ty arc having trouble with field bindweed commonly known as wild morning glory this is one of the most persistent and des tructive weeds fanners have to contend with it is a perennial with a very ex tensive and deep root system and spreads by both seeds and bits of broken root stalks small patches arc spread by cultivators and har rows so in fields where it ha be j come established it is wise to use a disc an much as possible for cul tivation like morning glory bindweed is in blossom now and has a while flower the plani re sembles the ordinary harmless morning glory lower two exper 175 attend meeting at brampton farm approximately 175 farmers from halton peel and york counties at tended a twilight meeting at the brampton seed farm on monday june 19 the program was held in co op cration with the soil and crop improvement associations and the department of field husbandry at the ontario agricultural cullcg the meeting was held as a remit of interest shown at a similar meeting in june of 1908 the program started with tours of the various plots commencing at 7 is compare varieties in inuring the plots the group was able to compete dupuits alia and vernal with other letlcs other
