the duke of devonshire chapter im perial order daughters ol the empire acton ont at the beginning of the year 1965 1966 there was a member ship of 26 biil in the early sum mer the chapter was saddened by the loss of three members mrs poole mrs hamilton and our past regent and convener of empire and world affairs miss mamie mainprize perfevl attendance nijie regular meetings and jw executive meetings were held in the members homes also one special meeting was at the leg ion hall hosted byihe -lakeside- chapter the average attendance was 15 two had perfect attend- ance and at the december meet- ing every member answered the roll call the standard was carried atull regular meetings decoration ond remembrance day services the provincial convention in hamil ton and was also placed in the funeral home in honor of the three deceased members the regent presided at all meetings with the exception of one when the first viceregent conducted the meeting the echoes secretary reported all members receiving the ech oes and obituary notices were sent to the magazine getwell congratulation and sympathy cards were sent to members and families and flow ers to those who were ill or had suffered a bereavement special topics some of the topics discussed by the conveners of empire and world afairs were lady chur chill and the late sir winston churchill u thant and his lea dership at the united nations the right to choose an alert publication and a- capsule ih what had been accomplished at the united nations in 1965 a bale of knitted articles a babys layette hospital gowns made from menusedshirts etc were sent to headquarters from the services at home and abroad convener a donation was given to the acton citizens band several members gave of their services to canvass for the ier ineuibcrs scholarship lo the grade 13 sludj s0h annlversary enl with the highest standing mrs spielvogel ot the lake side chapter gave a report on the provincial convention re seminar tom mckeown a grade 13 student who is sponsored by the chapter to attend the seminar at waterloo university in june addressed the chapter at the september meeting he gave a very informative report of ihe activities and discussions about the united nations dining the seminar financial support was given to the junior iode seminar jield in hamilton the survey questions were- dis cussed and voted on trip to australia nz in october the chapter was invited by the lakeside chapter to hear mavor l duby outline the plans of the newly organized centennial committee miss flora moffat from the queen charlotte islands british columbia a for mer aclon resident told ol her experiences as a nurse on an ex tended visit to australia and new zealand she also showed many pic that she had taken en route the chaptcrmembers were di vided into groups and each group contributed to the talent fund the annual tag days were held during the acton fall fair members attended decoration day services and planted flowers on former members graves they as the chapter makes plans fot fie 50th anniversary in june n i 67 let us first lake time to thank the iregenl and the execu tive who gave so generously of l heir lime and talents during the past yeiir to ihe hostesses for ihe use of their homes and all memliers who added so much to the meetings by their faithful at tendance we thank you lei us be proud ol being a can adian and being able to share in ihe wonderful resources oppor tunities and political freedom of oiijf toitptly let us be proud ol our nationwhich has found its place in the family ol
