annual report of the golden age club follows i wish to present a concise report of the highlights of our past year the new officers took over forjhe first meeting on march 3 1966 and 22 regular meet ings were held there were six bus trips ta ken to milton april 20 to guelph may 31 to zone picnic at lowville june 7 to owen sound august 17 to ice capad- es in maple leaf gardens nov ember 13 and to the zone rally in oakviue november 23 we also had the great plea sure of attending the lions club roundup june 11 for which that club had given us free tickets we attended holy shurfleboard was enjoyed in the arena and later in the y building but was discontinued ctarks foods provided -a-dln- ner november 17 a delicious 8nd bountiful christmas turkey dinner pre pared by our ladies and served by the v ladies auxiliary on december 15 was the real high light of the year five members died during the year their families were sent messages- of syrhpathy and a plant five highly esteemed couples cclebrated their golden wed ding anniversaries and were presented with a pot of mums and the congratulations and best wishes of the members- many golden agers had wv w v mi v spent periods in hospital or week services in knox presby- f confined to their beds or horn terian church april 3 and a special service of music in the baptist church november 6 and iode meeting on arth ritis e owing to sickness ailments or accidents l davidson president was honored wjlballfe mem bership by fhe acton fair board after 37 years of ser vice miss annie aklns as card convener did an excellent job of sending out sympathy get well cards and also christmas cards to shutins mr davidson had represent- the kitchen committee en- ed the club at zone executive tcrtainment committee and meetings- ndat centennial maintenance committee all de- project meetings we had ta- serve a great deal of praise we received our sc certi ficate may 19 no delegate was sent to the annua convention of senior citizens of ontario in ottawa in august ken mrs winn and secretary to milton october 1 where they attended zone 13 execu tlve meeting prior to the zone rally projects several project were under taken a beautiful quilt made by the quilt committee was drawn for march 17 mrs cos- sar held the lucky ticket and later turned the quilt in to the manor at milton the pro ceeds from the sale of quilt tickets were held in abeyance for the centennial fund earnr ings from quilting on another quilt were to be added to this fund mrs mary mcauley had won ss on a guessing contest on the mileage on the owen sound trip and turned it in to the centennial fund miss clark had also made a donation to it the golilen age club float won a prize in acton fair pa rade some necessary equip ment was purchased for use in the kitchen one hundred and fifty 150 identification badges had been bought mrs kennedy printed and inserted the members na mes in the badges a rhythm band was started mrs fryer s representative went to the drug stores and was told the members would have o reduction of 10 per cent on the cost of prescrip tions mrs winn was appointed as our representative to what is now known as community services when ill health forc ed her to resign mrs creasey took her place each attended their meetings and brought back reports donations go by snowplow a snowplow fresh out of the factory recently stopped oyer at a kitchener home and load ed up with several tons of used clothing for korea which it dropped off at the unitarian service committee sparks st ottawa headquarters before arriving at its destination at uplands airport included in this load no doubt were some of the many items which go regularly from acton to kitchener for the un itarian service committee the nondenominational nonpoliti cal organization distributes clothing in various parts of the world under thedirection of dr lotta hisohmanova for helping to make this a very successful and worthwhile year- undertnecapable leader- ship of mr davidson and shall we say as he says his better half it has been an active and prosperous year with mrs kennedy keeping careful and conscientious account of our pennies she has not missed a meeting during the year our membership stands at slightly over the century mark this is my report for our past year which i respectfully present for your approval mrs donald lccd secretary son quilting mrs florence robinson games mrs lam bert ed healey robert allen air annual reports were ex cellent a pleasing amount has accumulated in the centeh- nial fund and a satisfactory bank balance the annual re port of the- secretary showed the club had a very active year it was decided to have a dlf- fcrent lunch- convener each month with her own band of helpers instead of one conve ner for the whole year mrs george fryer is lunch cbnve- her for february with helpers mrs h lasby mrs charles mason mrs finnimore mrs m graham mrs basil john ston and miss annie awns- the program conveners will also be alternated thejr term will be two months meaning programs for two cverilnjg meetings mrs william evans and bob winton convening for february and march mr davidson thanked all for being so cooperative during his time in the chair and hop ed all their co-op- eratnaliring 1967 which will be an exceptionally busy year on account of the centennial projects it was announced that mr and mrs c k browne had generously donated all the ice cream dixie cups again for the christmas turkey dinner they were to be sent card of thanks for this wonderful gesture of goodwill not a sufficient number were interested in taking ad vantage of reduced group rates jpmake it worthwhile to hire a bus to the ice follies considerable disappointment was fell when it was mode known that the bus trip to florida was off several were making plans to go but will have to wait till later however plans arc underway for a bus trip to expo 67 of which more willbehcard later as enthusiasm is
