600 old boys and girls who started the day with a picnic in the conservation park and wound up at a dance in the town hall in the evening among those present from left to right harry tate principal of rockwood school reunion neither downpour nor power failure was able to dampen the enthusiasm of over 600 old boys end girls who attended the rockwood school reunion on the 1st of july an afternoon of handshak ing backslapping and do you r started off in rockwood conservation park at 2 pjn with a halfhour lull during a baby cloud burst former teachers and school mates from all parts of cana- da and many from the united states met and reminisced the most frequently heard remark i havent seen you in 20 years or 30 or even 40 one of the points of in terest was a urge collection of old school pictures loaned by the owners and reprinted and exhibited by don hilts who headed a committee for this a steady ire of guests with nostalgic yearnings visit ed the old school which is soon to be demolished children were shown the very spot where mummy or daddy sat in school when they were young thanks to the principal grant macrae and his teach ers the visitors were guided through the various rooms by volunteers from the present pupils while welcome signs greeted everyone from the blackboards copies of a time ly poem entitled the rock wood school written by rita mcphedran and her pupils were distributed at the door a picnic lunch in the park kept all occupied in the late afternoon while many used the early evening hours to good advantage to explore the beau tiful surroundings a well attended dance in rockwood town hall got off to an unusual but hilarious start because of a power failure which kept the hall in dark ness until 1030 pm don mc- arthur was a busy and enter taining mc handing out pri zes for the oldest student pres ent for the one travelling the j farthest distance and many the committee responsible for organizing the reunion were loudly applauded and in structed to hold a repeat per formance soon many thanks go to mrs ca thy linfoot meredith for months of work gathering and filing addresses and sending out over 1000 invitations thanks to the capable direc tion and ingenuity of mrs ruth mclaren wusselle we all had a marvellous time at the dance an able and hard working committee headed by herb saunders made for a well or ganized picnic with the em phasis on informality even the weather relented and turn ed sunny under herbs fnendlv persuasion many people returned home with a memento in the form of a reprint of an old school photograph thanks to the in dustry and talent of don hilts local photographer thanks are also due to a great many people who helped the commit- tee in their work posters and signs including the large welcoming banner at the picnic were done by linda langdon beautiful work lin da we appreciate the hours of toil you put in many people were helpful with acquiring addresses par ticularly mrs nellie gibbons saunders and mr s s royce who spent considerable time working with the invitation committee all out cooperation from the teaching staff of rock wood public school helped us over many of the rough spots sincere thanks to these and to many many others for their help and int and so our public and continuation school reunion is now a pleasant memory heres hoping all those promises about keeping in touch will be kept lets do it all over again in a few years dont wait ton long or some of us old ones may not make it intended for last week by mrs r mcenery on thursday morning june 29 a happy bunch of 43 board ed ted tylers bus and headed for niagara falls sponsored by ballinafad womens insti tute the first stop was a coffee break which was at the canal and the lift bridge going up for a large boat to go through then on to brocks monument the lovely floral clock arranged in colors to represent all the 10 provufces through the hydro generating plant then every one was ready to eat which we did while it rained all took a trip up to the top of oneida observation tower and on to visit canadia miniature build ings of famous landmarks of canada which covers 11 acres of miniature buildings rivers lakes boats bridges trains and many other wonderful things it is a trip worth taking a guide goes with you to explain everything as vou go along some visited the wax works and some shopped returning home after the illumination a tired bunch ballinafad womens institute was in the parade at erins cen tennial celebration on july 1 with a horedrawn surrey with the fringe on top getting 1st prize for it the june meeting of ballina fad womens institute was held in the community centre on wednesday evening following the opening with the wi ode and mary stewart collect roll call was answered by silly things i have done in the kitchen current events by mrs f smith were followed by the motto given bv mrs churchiu fmufy reunion infer happy groups togther sty mrs f mcartbur mr and mrs tom rotx lin da and mike spent the holiday weekend camping at boiler beadh kincardine mr and mrs david william son spent the holiday weekend at wasaga beach visiting over the weekend with mrs annie burns and mr and mrs david williamson were mrs vera davis and her father mr hugh mark of to ronto mrs john knox and son brian of hampton visited for a day with her daughter pat and bob kerr the sympathy of the com munity is extended to mr and mrs w swackhamer and the aitken family in the death of their mother mrs andrew ait ken mrs j w elliott carol su san georgie and karen of port arthur are visiting with her parents mr and mrs w j mcdonald and gordon mrs beatrice mackinder of los angeles spent wednesday afternoon and evening with her girlhood chum mrs isabel mcdonald the 14th andrew dalson re union was held at the home of mr and mrs w j mcdon ald on sunday july 9 about 70 of the clan gathered at 1230 for a picnic lunch beside gor- mac lake after lunch a short business meeting was held with mr gordon dalson of woodstock remaining as presi dent for another year and mrs ear lynch of stratford as sec retary a splendid program of races was conducted by mr ray- tnon dalson of alton and his committee swimming and boating were enjoyed by the young while the older people enjoyed v relations were present from port arthur north bay beav- erton woodstock stratford newmarket toronto and sur rounding area a double birthday gathering was held on sunday afternoon june 9 at the home of mr and mrs fred macarthur those attending were mr and mrs gill bisson and family and mr and mrs clare macarthur of wetland mr and mrs ed green toronto and mr and mrs leroy macarthur and family a happy time was spent and all enjoyed a boun tiful picnic supper with birth day cake and ice cream extra a correction in
