livestock yards under the direction of the assistant man ager jack riddell while at the yards members were given a thorough tour of the various sales rings and livestock hold ing areas they were also given a run down of the history and meth od of operation of the toronto stock yards in 1903 the yards were built and open to the public in 1944 the ontario government took over the yards which were previously operated by a private company of the 10 public stock yards in canada toronto has the largest volume market with 1 w million head of cattle pass ing through them each year this represents
