course eight high school students who attended summer school in brampton during their holidays have all passed their subjects as a result three more students will receive grade 12 diplomas tills fall others will now pass on with the other students in ttwlr grade this is the first time acton students have had the opportun ity to make up their marks dur ing the summer principal ted hansen said that in the spring when marks were given out there were 17 names specified of stu dents who could benefit from the summer school program of these nine agreed to pay the re quired 930 and register one lat er dropped out for reasons of health the school ran from july 3 to august 11 ending with the exams altogether there were 370 stu dents attending summer school at central peel secondary school in brampton students came from all over the area including 54 from georgetown this school had no dropouts no truants and no afsathy in the eyes of either teacher or student since everyone was there simply because they want to improve themselves there were three types of courses offered enrichment im provement and makeup not the cosmetic type but the making up of lost subjects in the makeup section the opportunity was given to take two subjects they missed with the mark they receive at summer school replacing the mark on the june report only applicants who attained at least 40 in the failed subject and with an over all average of no less than 50 were eligible the enrichment course for the better than average student offered subjects they may be un able to take in their next years regular classes typing is ex tremely popular with some young students just about to enter high school enrolled the improvement section was open to students whopassed their regular exams but would like a higher mark and a greater under standing of the subject organizer and principal of the summer school donald lawson head of the science department at bramalea secondary school director of adult education and chairman of georgetowns high school board pointed out that on ly experienced teachers mostly department heads or assistant department heads teach at this summer school this school is run strictly for the benefit of the students he stated in another burst of enthusiasm mr lawson commented in many cases the summer school jjayes a student from repeating a whole year its really a great deal for them the days started at nine and ran till 1220 with a twenty min ute break with classes except typing numbering around 15 the teachers were able to give indiv idual attention not ready to
