arena was the crowning of lovely brenda spear as centennial queen to the tumultuous applause and cheers of the audience of 1200 last years miss acton fair miss maggie given transferred the guttering crown to the head of the new title holder as miss spear wept a little with excite ment behind her on the platform were the four popular runners- up who had all had keen audience support jackie lee of acton high school who placed second elaine johnson of acton high school who placed third ann gordon of act on tajgh schoolandkathryn wood ward of erin high school the winner who lives at b b 2 acton attends erin high school her mother mrs fred spear and some of her seven sisters were at the show she has tw o young brothers as well miss spear was awarded a multitude of prises donated by acton open this fair he introduced life members of the fair board who were present dd walthe ar mclean ab robinson and rl davidson and mentioned another billy hamp shire who waa unable to be there he gave a first hand report of the choirs experiences and splendid reception at expo and the choir repeated their entire program with commentary by allan lander only thing miss ing was the french translation by unique interest for cen tennial year there were 21 entries in the contest for replicas of womens centennial costumes judged by mrs e mluer caledon mrs alex mckinney of brampton and mrs m mckenna woodbridge first prize went tomrs james robertson of milton whose 80- yearold mother made her rep lica gown of aqua tucked tafnta with matching hat and white fea ther her mother was in the audience in a wheel chair the dress was a replica of the win ners grandmothers wedding dress and was made without a pattern in second place was mrs gor don currle in a lavendar gown and then mrs cottrell in rose on it but at least it was there a centennial birthday cake and plaques all of flowers had been ready the night before the parade and although the float had been covered with plastic the heavy dew
