from last years christmas tssue one df the leading womens magazines i had saved a recipe for a cut cookie that sounded marvelous on saturday i let all the regular housework just nt and got busy in the kitchen grinding mixing chopping pounding and cutting when i was done the kitchen looked as though something had exploited in it but i had three trays of gmerbread men stars christmas trees and holiyjeavts ready to go jnro the oven they baked beautifully and 1 was beginning to think that maybe i should have baked a double bach til we tned them beth gnawed away t one yumming all the while but then shell eat anything thats lying around the kitchen grant hatfield managed to bite a piece off and handed it back a visiting dog smiled really until he got a scrap then laid it down on the floor gave me a dirty look and walked off gord tried dunking a ar injj s nt trite sugar his tea after he couldnt through it on first try but it just sank he gave it to the hound who didn t even try to bite hjhjm swallowed it whole if id had any sense i a have realized that the recipe must have been a misprint as it didnt have any butter or shortening in it i know that there must be flavor in there somewhere with all the other goodies that went into it slivered almonds honey candied orange peel chopped gingerto ive kept all the plain scraps to put into a bread pudding when i lave enough bread crusts according to the directions the cookies should be finished by brushing with a hot corn syrup glaze and sprinkling with decorations i compounded my catastrophe by forgetting that the glaze was simmering on the stove witii the pastry brush sitting in it this would have been all right with my old bristle brush but this new one was plastic and by the time i thought about it it had melted half away not wanting to waste anything i mixed the mess up well brushed and decorated the cookies let them dry and packed them away in a few weeks ill drill a hole through the top of each one siring a packed brown sugar 1 beaten eg 2 tbsp molauet and vi cup milk elder or crape jmce add to suet mixture and blend vcell uswc your hands mix v lip salt lj tip baking soda w tip cloves vi tsp olliplce and 1 tip cinnamon and sprinkle over batter blend in well i- all large greased pudding molds 23 full and cover uith aluminum foil set on rack in torse pot add boding wales to depth of one inch cover and fruil was sent to mrs i red anderson who has been very ill she was especially missed by the members as this is the first christmas party for a good many years that she has missed with president miss marjonu hall presiding the meeting opened in the usual way and the roll call was answered by the first christmas 1 can remember recollections included happy family gatherings and sleigh rides miss hall read a verse he that does not have christmas in his heart will not find it under the tree a vote of thanks was given miss kenney for making the penny sale tickets for the euchre and panny sale to
