ashgrove in esquesins township later moving to georgetown where he became engaged in the coal and wood business which busi ness he conducted tlllra few years ago when failing health and strength de manded his retirement he was also active in the building industry and many houses in georgetown attest this- phase of his life and his honest methods of construction this business period which covered forty five years was marked by an unstained record for honesty and sterling integrity qualities that extended to his home life and life in the community in general he was one of those rugged pioneers who laboured early and late with axe and scythe and whose his tory is the story of the development of the township of esquesing in earlier days he was engaged in the logging buslnessrand his teams were wellknown on all the roads that led to oakvllie the shipping point at that time in religion he was a methodist and in earlier days attend ed the llttieoldchurch at ashgrove later he became identified with the church in georgetown of which he was a staunch supporter in politics he was a staunch conservative in so he was married to mary margaret mcnab at ashgrove and there and in james of hamilton ny and john of georgetown one son norman mc nab died in 1914 and one daughter mrs j c irons in 1924 there are also eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren one brother m ballantlne of lxmdon and one sister mrs wm berry of arthur survive his passing was widely noted his funeral was well attended though by few of his own generation a testi mony to his abstemious jlfe as well as- to his rugged constitution when such a man passes there is a deep sense of loss to those who knew him best but there is also a sense of pride and satisfaction that a life so full of years was also full of accomp lishment without a stain of injustice or unfair means the funeral services were held at his late residence and were conducted by the rev mr caldwell and the rev mr rumley the interment was made in the family plot in green wood cemetery the pallbearers were reeve mclntyre mr sam kirk mr wm grant mr ed mcwhlrter mr john bingham and mr j m moore floral tributes were sent by
