the case in the immedlste neighborhood of broadcasting sis lion take the case of ckct the 100 watt toronto station for lnststvo euudkw of ckcu as you know are located on university ave about two miles away on cherry sl he transmitter and towers send the stations broadcasts on the air re gularly according to chief engineer emle swan of the station ckcl is heard by listeners in australia thous ands of miles away yet in ti studios own back yard just two mllw ftom uie transmitter it u impossible for a reeeher to tune in the uattoul the explanation according to swan is simple the wares from cxctvs aerial shooting away up in the sky i are reflected by the iteevlside layer and end up around australia and such distant points yet these vavco dont get a chance to reach the studios back yard because of down town buildings it seems that these buildings in a direct line between the studio and the transmitter absorb the waves k this of course is not the case in other parts of the city where ckcl well heard by james annan in the toronto star weekly uoue luraovcuevr room can be no better than its hours no mil ter how attractive the furniture or rugs may be if the floors are unsightly the appearance of the room is spoiled if you plan to modernise and im prove the appearance of your home will be etr to pay special atten tion to your floors if the wood is in good condition the general procedure is to scrapr varnish and wax but if the wood is not in a t km to take this treatment there are other ways to make the floor attractive any cracks in the wood may be ailed and the floor painted black or dark red floors of this type are frequently found in very old house there are ato many omposition covering- on the market a ilcli may be laid over the old floor the home improvement
