clinic be xorced to accept an offer to take her work out of onlarlo because professional redtape and prejudice and government apathy forces such action at the mnmmt it looks as if the period of crisis has been reached united states inter ests are clamoring for her treatment on her desk are tempting offers to move her clinic over the border from the standpoint of personal in terest she has no alternati but personal interests have not been the guiding motive of this conscientious lady months ago she was urged uh go to the united states she has re sisted these offers in the hope that here in her native province a suf ficient interest will have been shown to retain for ontario the full bene fits of her discovery she has of course faced the organ ized opposition or the ontario msdi- cal council this was expected but she has hoped that interest might be aroused through which che ontario government would assert its prero gative and take steps to give her the recognition she expects and deserves petitions are now being circulated and widley signed asking the govern- ment to take steps at the forthmtn- ing session of the legislature to per- mit her to carry on her humanitarian effort and secure for cancer suf fers a continuance of her treatment here in ontario this final effort is being based upon the practical results achieved from her treatment hundreds of cancer suffers with health restored offer to the government living proof that she has developed a treatment which has prevented deaths from can- cer and in many cases effected cures j so far as physical indications are able to provide such proof begging to be permitted to continue under legal protection a treatment which has produced such results as ratandto the credit of miss cassle is one of the anomalies which none outside a skeptical and prejudiced profession can understand mr hepburn has given a sympa thetic hearing to requests for oovem- ment action he is not one to be moved from a course involving human interests simply because professional niceties have not been observed there is reason to believe that were all the facts made known the people or ontario woukr rise determinedly in support of such action by the govern ment as would cut the bands of jed tape brush aside the foggy barriers of professional etiquette and get straight at the core of this immensely impor tant matter we greatly doubt whether the on tario government is convinced that there exists any sound reason why an lnsututibn which has done so much for cancer sufferers in this province should be ignored and ha rassed to the point of being driven across the line and into the lap of people who eagerly await the oppor tunity to secureits benefits and be stow their benediction upon its dls- it drastic action is to be taken the record of mr hepburn and his gov ernment gives hope that public in terests win not be sacrificed to the narrow prejualccs of a selective few mm the huntsville forester feb miss jean watts a slim fairhaired streetsvlue girl stepped off the queen mary at new york on monday ex actly one year ago sunday miss watts left for spain more than eleven months of that time she has spent aiding the spanish government in various ways since october she has been driving ambulances and on occasion provision trucks dnjng al her own repair work miss watts in her middle 30s psychology graduate of the univer sity tot toronto is devoting her life to fighting fascism her parents re- swe in streetsvule 1 dldnt want to leave but it was felt that x might do some good back in canada for a while she told a reporter when she disembarked this intexpld canadian girls last taste of spain was ten days solid bombing of the civilian section of barcelona which she jelt january 21 she saw an eightstorey apartment house sliced down the middle and all the people burled beneath the no i dldnt actually see mothers and little children killed she ald but- next day the street cars were full of people carrying wreaths some so big they had to be hung on the back because there was no room in side that told the story miss watts arrived in new york clad is conventional feminine garb she had lost her ambulance driving clothes she said she wore a heavy leather coat a goatskin jacket sever- sweaters corduroy breeches and high leather boots- as she drove unougb streets and mountains and meadows there was only one other woman chauffeur in spain she saw a tjnlted states girl named evelyn whose husband runs a government garage the men treated me with a lot of reference and some shyness at first but soon they got to think or me just another man which suited me tie said miss watts mis watts was in madrid march to july last year and got used to ln- ewtwant thriling like everyone else she has seen movie lineups dec mated by rebel shells in barcelona people took air raids so calmly they would stand under an awtnng as at for protection and watch one going on she said miss watts was for some time for the particular remedy to overcome ah ill ness or some undesirable condition that such advertising is effective shown in the number of people who have become what the advertisers would call breathconscious a bad breath or halitosis is un- pleasani whether or not your best t friend mentions it according to the advertisements friends and famuy are much more reticent about refer ring to personal failings than experi ence would seem to prove however a bad breath is very often ah offence and because it does not come from the normal healthy bodfir attention should be brought to its correction for the comfort of others and the benefit of the owner the most common cause is a dirty- mouth there are always germs in the mouth which- are ready to sense upon the smalmst particles of food left between the teeth annhe re sult is fermentation and putrefaction a little bit of which goes a long way in fouling the breath despite all that is said there is no mouth wash which sterilises the mouth the practical way is to have the teeth healthy because there is an odour to decaying teeth as there is also to tar tar which collects around the teeth when the teeth have been made healthy they should be kept clean by regular brushing after each meal odours do not arise from the stomach unless air is brought up from the stomach when belching occurs there should not be any disagreeable odour if the stomach is heathy some foods contain volatile oils these are absorbed after digestion and when carried by the blood stream to the lungs they are smelt on the breath this is what happens when you eat onions or drink alcohol there are parts in and around the mouth and nose which may become diseased and so taint the breath tonsils with their crypts may con tain offensive material and nead sinuses become disagreeable on ac count of infections when elimina tion is delayed it usually means putrefaction in the lower bowel with absorption of material which gives rise to unpleasant breath it appears that most cases of of fensive breath would be prevented by keeping the mouth and adjacent parts clean and healthy and by se curing satisfactory elimination questions- c health ad
