weather conditions and functioning of airways facilities coincident with the operations the federal meterorloglcal service is get ting practical training in providing weather reports and forecasts under actual flight conditions and the post office department has been enabled to plan for maximum efficiency when regular airmail service begins the commencement of these flights was an important step in tca his tory it opened the seventh and last stage of what is probably the most thoroughgoing pilot training program ever instituted by a major air trans port system last summer the air line commenc ed training its initial pilot group which has expanded until it now con sists of 26 men all or whom held commercial transport licenses before they joined lhe service the first step was instruction m the mechanical functions ol equipment and accessor les tills v as follow ed by primary flying instruction in the type of equip ment used as a third step the pilot was required tp fl by his instruments and radio alone without reference to the ground then came local radio rarge flying in which the planes fol lowed a path through the air marked by radio signals lo and from their base the fifth step was night fly in around the home held by mid winter the pilot group was al the sixth stage flying by instruments across country between widely separated points while following the radio range or beam as it is somttimes called this last stage brought the trans canada air lint flying operations be the tingling young blue alr let me not miss borings sweetness or hs ache and when each shed adjoining the barn i was somewhat startled by strange dog which came tearing out of the darkness to race away across the neighboring fields he was a huge black animal in the early morning darkness strongly re sembllng a bear i thought no more about him at the time assuming he was just a stray dog who had sought shelter for the night and would go on his way later in the morning however when i went to the bam i saw the same dog again slinking away i called to him but he paid no attention to my calls continuing make his way across the fields prom the dogs appearance he had eidently been cruelly treated his body was a mere skeleton and he seemed to have a great fear of man going to the house i procured a pan of rood and placed it in the shed where the dog had been hiding just before dusk i went out to see if tramp as i named him had eaten the food as 1 approached the shed tramp came out and hurried away upon entering the shed i discovered he had licked the pan clean for the next few days i placed food in the pan every morning and night but left tramp to his own de vices he ate the food and slept in lhe shed every night but would not come near me one night 1 was a wakened from a sound sleep by tramp s barking he gave two or three sharp barks then he would howl this was unusual for him and coming as it did in the mlddleof the night it had a startling effect at last when i could stand the howling no longer i got out of bed put on my clothes and made my way to the barn determined to put a stop to the noise when i got about half way to the barn i discovered a light in the feed room something was wrong who could be prowling around my bam running the remainder df the way i burst into the barn and there in one comer of the feed room was a pile of straw which was burning merrily with are yod sore your eyes see correctly k5k1 have you seen the new rimless mounting no screws to loosen and cause wobbly lenses la glasses thus saving ywm man ay our price is the
