or the opportunity that such an ex curslon offers a rough canvass of the number of prospective pilgrims is now being conducted with a view to as certaining how many ships will be re quired to transport the great crowd it wont be the faultol thedztario department of agriculture if the boys and girls of rural ontario are not trained to meet the changing farm and household conditions of the pro vince hon p m dewan ontario minister of agriculture in addressing rural young people from one end of the province to tbe other has contin ually stressed the point that the young people of today are the farmers and the farmers wives of totmorrow if they are to compete successfully with the farmers 6t other provinces and countries they must have the latest and best agricultural knowledge ob tainable as it is manifestly impossible fpr all these young people to attend colleges teaching agriculture and home econo mics the department each year ar ranges to hold short courses in every county where free of charge these interested young people receive lee tures from experts in every line of agriculture and home economics and take part in practical work and de monstrations diplomas are awarded at the conclusion of each course the only entrance requirement is a will ingness to learn short course work is under the gen eral supervision of r s duncan di rector of agricultural representatives with the agricultural representative in each county being principal of the school there are five courses each lasting three months and 33 one month courses in some counties there will be a series of special meetings and in others there will be four oneweek courtees laist year 1313 boys and 3866 girls attended and this year it is connd ently expected the attendance will be over 3000
