from page pads into the net sargent then i combined with c bradley and chap lln to score georgetown s final goal the third period with only a minute left to play georgetown all to cover up in front of their goal i and jones scored to make the final bunt 3 2 and the pirates were still i to be beaten i the last game of the round robin series saw hornby and georgetown battling it out hornby had to win this game to be in ihe finals and georgetown although not losing a game all season had to at least tie hornby or be out of it the game had just got underway vhen may scored to put hornby in the it ad they held that lead until half way through the second period v hen chaplin rounded the defence and beat the goalie with a hard shot to the top corner of the net in the third period georgetown scored to go out in front when press wood on a beautiful effort stick handled his way through the entire hornby team splitting the defence and scoring a few minutes later hilts scored a neat goal to bring the final score to 3 1 for the pirates georgetown finished first and nor val second so these two teams met in the playoffs tor the rumley cup there were two games goals to count norval and the pirates opened then- two game series on thursday night last with georgetown getting a one goad lead on norval by a 1 0 win it was the best game of the season and close all the way with both goal keepers being kept quite busy there was no score until the five minute mark in the final period when c bradley scored for the pirates on a hard angle shot that went between lockhurst the norval goalie and the goal post both goalies starred throughout and hoare registered his fifth shut out in fourteen games played in those 14 games only fourteen goals were scor ed against him on monday night norval and the georgetown pirates played the final game tor the rumley cup the pi rates had a one goal lead going into this game by beating norval previous ly 1 0 george wefit into uui game minus four of their stars chaplin blackburn g bradley and w bradley the chance of holding that aum one goal- lead did not look very good at the five minute mark m the- first period sargent opened the scoring for the pirates on a backhand shot from a few feet out play went from one end to the other and again sargent came through to flash the red ugbt behind lockhurst in the norval net a few minutes later nor- and returning to the bolton and georgetown playoff scries the bolton enterprise said a lot of nice things for the georgetown bob although they did not even alibi tor using nixon in the final playoff game and kohoe during the regular schedule they gave the local boys credit for their efforts in trying to aubdue a team which was picked from the best of them and also last years group winners we clip a few para graphs here and there from the en lerprlse which may prove interesting to some the interest manifested by fans in the adjoining bolton and georgetown areas reached the highest peak in this final and crucial game of the long years of rivalry between the two clubs a keen hard fought series vas anticipated it became a reality supporters were not disappointed whether their club won or lost they realized and were content that all players gave their very best it was a contest of speed brain and brawn the laurels going to bolton were ad mlttedly richly deserved george towns slogan may the best team win was apt and t sportsmanlike admittedly a good club went down to defeat but a better club emerged to carry the torch of the group in the provinolal play downs editor s note we do not necessarily agree with all of the above paragraph and still we quote the enterprise to win is always sweet to lose gracefully is a real tribute manager ern thompson his players and ofn clals of
