motherland days long gone it was good to moor the punt under shadowy willows alongside old father thames scraps of music from lordly househoats and ripples of girlish laughter and splash of distant lazy oars sweetened the romance and when there was real lovers moonlight the kind that makes tired faces lovely as psyches own well the kingdom of dreams came down to dear earth and made them one but the scent of moonlit lilacs these early summer nights in canada has a glory all its own everything hope ful and brave is in it music and laughter and memory fill every whiff of it northern lights are hashing thcli fans of silver across the sky with the moonlight they give these waxy blossoms a touch of beauty that only needs the perfume to make them ab solutely perfect all day long bees in the orchard have hummed a symphfiny of appc blossom robins have filled the air with lilting piping chatter three ntstllngs have lain the whole day with mouths wide open pointing to the skj already hey believe that the orld owes them a living and it is correspondence b voters on money bylaws dear mr editor this office has been accused of carelessness in the preparation of the list of voters on the recent money bylaws we do not claim that the list was perfect it was taken from the 1938 assessment roll and was revised by the judge oh november 9th 1938 about the only time people seem to take any interest in the list is on vot ing dav and then it is too late to make any change the time to start having a correct list made ls when the assessor is mnklng his rounds and it is the duty of the ratepayer to give the assessor he required information falling that another opportunity is given after the voters list is prepar ed- i is advertised in the herald that court of revision will be held to make any corrections we understand a number were re fused ballots because their names wtre not on the lists if they had been kssessed as owners or joint ountrs their nn tries would have ap peared on the list in some cases the husband ls assessed as owner and the wife as mfnc which entitles her to vote at municipal election but not on monej hy laws those wno wish to have the correc tions made this year must now ap peal to the court of revision which i will be htld in the fall btforc judge i munro li this ls not done then the assessor should be notified next andnow thelrday s e hen he makes his rounds 1 but the reponsibijitj is on the rate pujtr lo stl that he ls assessed cor recti then if there are an errors m the vors lists this office will have lo accept responsibility p b harrison
