horn to toronto of walter samuel morphy mr morphy retired from jie offioe of crown attorney len years ago and since that time has lived at 38 north cliffe boulevard toronto he came from a pioneer canadian family which emigrated from ireland about the time or the mackenzie rej belilon in oana da his grand father witn his seven sons set tied in toronto one son liter moved to brant i cord wiheire he for i number of years engaged the jewelry business he was married to amcl is iiumsder of toronto who be came the mother ot eight cliil 1ren on of thes- was walter s mar l phy who later was to become one or this districts best known clti zena mr morphy graduated from toron to university and osgoode hall and went to brampton in 1885 wrier he entered a law partnership with his uncle thomas morphy within a few years his practice extended through out peel county he was considered a particularly clever municipal solid tor and was for 25 years solicitor for the township of toronto he aso served as solicitor for albion and cal edon townships and for the county council and in addition was solicitor for tr- dominion bank in 1916 he was appointed crown at torney for peel and during the thlr teen years he occupied this importan office he represented the crown in many important cases a resident of brampton or 44 yean mr morphy was connected through out tint time with christ anglican church where he served as warden sunday school superintendent a mem ber of the dholr and a member of he church tribunal he was keenly interested in sport and was active in both cricket and bowling another of his activities was that which concerned the children s aid soc ety an organization of which be was honorary treasurer for many years both mr and mrs mophy were among the most active workers in the establishment of the children s shelter at milton mr morphy travelled extensively eelng in his travels most of canada a large part of the united states and he twice crossed the atlantic to visit the old country he was passionately fond of music and apart from his choir activities made a special study of church music and hymnology his only farteraal affiliation was with the loyal orange lodge no 5 mr morphy was married twice his first wife being mary helen daughter of canon johnston rector ot christ church his second wife who survives him was clara bell of georgetown mr morphy was a staunch conserv atlve and served in executive capacl ties with the peel county conserve ttve association at the time of his death mr morphy was a member of st paul s church bloor stret toronto brampton oolf club and the thistle club of toron to suffering form hearing difflcul ties he became interested in the llp- readlng club and was its vicepre sldent besides his widow mr morphy is survived by his daughter evelyn and two sisters mrs t n sampson of itoronto and mrs e j jaffray of port arthur funeral services were held from the mcdougall and brown funeral oha pel 646 8t clair of che most successful meetings held in the life of the branch both in record attendance and variety of programme as this was the last meeting for the ear it was in the form of a earend party there was a large number of visitors from other branches mr j l mckindley branch prcj dent presided for the short business period of the evening a most inter esting part of the program was a ur prise visit leaving toronto was honored by his fr ends about forty sat down to the beautiful banquet tables and vas an interesting affair from this point so many of the choir members w ho had been in mr cox s junior choirs of past years now are the sen iors only about six of the original choir being present at the conclusion of the banquet the president mr james trotter gave a very kindly talk relative to mr cox s leaving and wishing him every success in his new field of activity he i was then presented with a beautiful music satchel and his wife was pre sented with a lovely bouquet of mums by one of
