ontarioquebec division of the owjtfa the editors corner reconsecration week i today september 1 0th marks the opening of the third year of war and he government of canada has proclaimed the week of september 10 1 7 as a week of reconsec ration of the canadian people to the democratic cause against nazi tyrrany it is a week in which we should take stock of ourselves as a nation as a province as a town and as individuals to see just what we have done what we aredoing and what we shall do in rins year to come to kelp bring this war to a successfulvcbnclusion has georgetown been playing her part in our judgment she has and nobly so hundreds of her citizens have answered the call to the cojours more are leaving every day to join the army the air force and navy and play their part as fighting men others are working at less obvious though nonelthe less lm portant roles in local plants where war materials are being produced our red cross society is turning out vast quan tities of supplies for hospitals and for bntisrvbomb vic tims our citizens have given generously tjthecana dian war servces and red cross campaigns to the herald war victims fund and to the tag days for greek war relief navy league soldiers comforts and legion war work the war loan was oversub scribed by a substantial amount and war savings cer tificates are being bought every day to help provide funds for he war what shall we do in the year to come no one can accurately foretell the sacrifices that will have to be made the dollars which must be do noted and lent the men who must leave their peace time jobs o join the ever increasing roles of the armed forces the things those who remain must do without come what ma we know that georgetown will con frirme to do her best in all these things as she has done before and tha in future years we shall be able to look back and sa nx e did our best another fund it is coincidental that as this third year of war begms the herald inaugurates another new fund which we sincerely hope will gain the support of every one of our readers last year the soldiers comforts committee was organized as an adjunct of the local red cross societ and given an initial donation of 100 from the society s funds to get it started the purpose of the committee is just what the name implies to pro vide our soldiers overseas with some of the little things that they cannot obtain for themselves cigarettes and tobacco chocolate bars tea etc more than this it aakws that we back home are thinking of them- and thinking of them in a practical way by sending along a parcel every now and then the work of this committee has been greatly increased in the past few months since the lome scots regiment arrived in england and there are now over 120 names on the list it is no small undertaking now to send a parcel to the boys even to send cigarettes once costs 120 and to add a few other things to the parcels increases the cost proportionally so far the funds have been raised by tag days baking sales and a few private donations of money and goods now the timp has come when the support of the public in general is needed to enable the com mittee to carry on it s work we hope that everyone will try to help the fund by a donation no matter how small and that his fund like our herald war vic tims fund will keep on growing and growing and growing it s up to youl coming events coming events cast their shadows brfore at least so a number of our readers seem to lelicve and we were the object of much good natured ribbing last week when the herald for the first time since we came to town failed to make the appearance on wed nesday night it was truly a coming event which was respon sible for the delay but not what you thmk we were hard at work getting out the fall fair prize list and with the hobday on monday it was impossible to get all the type set for the herald m time to get it on sale at the usual time v iwt mlnng nny pronn hut at r rf wrfltsfgt all indications
