the georgetown herald wedneaday evening november 26 1941 ias we see it br j a strat aftbb reading the nrat two ut t otrles of articles by hugh tenrolln of the fensus news eteconl who has recenu returned from a months visit to enxland where he represented the weekkr newspapers association la a ktoud of twelve canadian writers who were nests of the britlao govern ment weve concluded tliac unlike many other writers that have made that trio he can still write in an in- terestlrv manner so many other writers seemed tn have lost then cunning at writing after visiting kng- land even the nitidis by dorotfry thompson are not nearly as lnterest- hasaas ther were prior to her visit to thcfcu land when hugh first an- ncraced his intention or going over there we wondered it he too would lose that lntereatinft manner that he s in his writings or descriptions but we need not have worried hugh no to have that happy knack that must appeal to about 99 of his read ers it is quite an achievement being able to interest the common people when there are so many of them an lincoln wasnt it used to say hugh seems to take the reader right along with him all the way there and back and well be looking forward to read mit the whole series v v v the whiter that wrote about the chin november days being the saddest of the vear would be all wet in this 1941 november wouldn t he of course november suh brings alonfr the odd chilly daw but it would be difficult to beat thejweafcher of this month this year even if the odd dav in the fan is a little chilly it is a very nice time of the year the harvest has an been gathered in and the larder is full of all those nice ttunes that nature along with the co operation of the larder owner has pro- tided the evenings are a little lon ger giving us a chance to catch up with the reading matter that may have been nexdected all summer tbe cool tang in the air makes one feel like pilch- lnir in and dojng something extra when cool weather comes along we al ways think that it was a mistake wuen oordhvood and bucksaws want out or fashion the chap that never op erated a bucksaw in dry coxdwood has mlaaed something worthwhile an other november chore that has gone out of date is the banking of the house it used to be a regular prac tice to pile earth around the base ment walls on the outside of course in the fall to help keep the frost out of the cellar perhaps i3uss are biillt better today or again maybe there are more furnaces tn the basement now a- davs than used to be the cae or again maybe jack frost is losing out in his severity bouts anyway the job of banking up the house is outofda today v v v with december lust around the corner and the christmas season not so rir away we wonder if we couldnt persuade the broadcasting sta tions to frive us some christmas carols earlier than thev usually do we never seem to get enough of the christmas music on the radio no doubt there is a large demand for time on the air at christmas due to extra business however it should be uossible to feature christinas mush instead of some of that 90oalled music that we seem to set so much of no doubt the broadcasting stations find it difficult to suit all tastes but it does seem impossible to get the kind of program that we want at times most of the christmas music is far too nice to be onlv usedat the one- sea son of the year anyway somehow with the world still engaged in war we don t think that we could gfc too much christmas music v v v the following verse the author of which is unknown could be entitled the renter
