known peril and loss but a year which has seen two powerful allies join us in the right for liberty and freedom we in canada have been fortunate some of our people suffered bereavement many arc lonely and many are deeply anxious about those dear to them and to them out deepest sympathy goes out but up until now comparatively few of us have experienced anything of the real tragedy of war because canada has gieat resources and is able to furnish britain with large quantities oi the materials she needs our factories have been humming business has nourished and many have more money in their ijockets than ever before but the yearto come promlsei many changes some of us will have to go to work at jobs to which we are not accustomed to keep flow ing in everincreasing quaiuiiioi the supply or goods needed to overwhelm a deadly enemy we may be forced to do without many of the material comforts that make life pleasani not because we haven t the money neod- ed to buy them but because the supply of key products available is only largt enough for qur war needs many business people will find pro fits diminishing because of wartime price and wage restrictions but these ffccom eniences we are prepared lo accept without whining lhopc you all have had a happy holiday after two and a half jears of war and the anxiety of threatened war for three years before tiiat everjonc needs for a time to throw their troubles overboard and to enjoy tiie gaiety and merriment the uplirt of heart and spirit always associated with the cclebiatlon of our christmas festival i hopethe children especially have had a happy time that santa has- brought them wnat thty wanted most and that every day they have had their fill of care fr e pluj unci fun and laughter to morrow hi ins another ytar a jear we
