presidents address was de- mr reid thanked the officers the society for their support and uon during the year and all who had in any way helped to the airtuch a decided success spoke of the 1943 show birthday january 28th pte hodge is now serving in italy with the r c ox3 he enlisted in may 1940 going overseas in october 1941 this will be the third birthday he has celebrated overseas prior to due to the large number ofentrtes it was suggested that for the 1944 fair a school children s parade be held and this also will be dealt with by the incoming board it was decided that the 2 00 mem hold the fair early september again thlsyear lions pay tribute to memory of lill long at regular meeting monday night at the regular monthly meeting of georgetown lions club held in the mcgibbon house on monday evening tribute was paid to the memory of one of its charter members and past pre sldents lion bill long lion ed mc whlrter expressed the regret of the club at the passing of one of liis best friends and one of the best lions in the club and extended sympathy to his widow and daughter a period of si lence was then observed in his me mory an invitation was received from the i oakvllle club fox members to attend their dlstirct governors night on friday and a number signified their intention of going to oakville lion james bailantlne was to have i been the guest speaker and his sub death in toronto oh thursday january 13th of william h long a lifelong resident of george town and for the past fourteen years the proprietor of longs confectionery store and gray cqach depot came as a great chock to the citizens of this community he was in his 61st year mr long was born in georgetown the son of mr and mrs nathan long received his schooling here and worked at cb dayfoot co for twenty five yearsj before buying his main street business twenty nine years ago he married the former ethel m wallace who with their daughter margaret remains to mourn the loss of a beloved husband and father also surviving are one brother jack of georgetown and a sister nellie mrs john smith of couingwood the late mr long will be greatly missed by the community as a wjhe as well as by his wide circle of friends for be always took an kqhy part in community life and fy freely of his time and efforta tn any worthwhile cause he was bast grand master of credit lodge af ail and helton chapter he has also held office in the oddfellows i o o j one of the ori glnal members of the lions club he was a chartei member and past pretl- sldent for over twenty ave years he was chief of the volunteer fire bri gade mr long has played a prominent part on all victory loan committees and will alfo be missed by the local branch of the red cross in which or ganization he was a valued member of their packing committee he was a member of the united church for many years he held the office of chief i ranger and financial secretary of the i independent order of foresters the many beautiful floral georges church of england many of the young people will remember tremayne who is now a graduate of the ojvc guelph his bride miss pamela little is the granddaughter of the late w a fra ser well known canadian writer mr and mrs fraser were residents of georgetown for a good many years and lived in the house on main st south now owned by dr c v williams st albans guild annual meeting the annual meeting of st albans ladles guild was held at the home of mrs john hepburn glen wullams on thursday evening last the rector ven w o o thompson presided after the devotional opening and the reading of the minutes of last an nual meeting the reports were pre sented the secretary mrs hepburn reported on the years activities mrs arthur beaumont treasurer reported complete receipts of 31089 which were so well used that a balance of thirteen cents remained mrs wm hadley gave a report on the sewing and quilting done the officers were reelected as fol lows hon pres mrs w o o thomp son president mrs wm dickenson the rector spoke in terms of com mendatlon of the faithful work of the small group and then asked the pre sident mrs hadley to take the chair on doing so mrs hadley thanked the guild for her reelection and asked for the same support she had received in the past it was decided to hold the annual ba zaar on shrove tuesday which will be feb 22nd and to meet weekly until that time the congregation will be asked to attend and contribute showers- for the usual booths the meeting was closed with the benediction after which delicious re freshments were served by mrs hep burn and miss c sinclair press secy afra kersey richard kerr norval dies in 75th year the death of richard kerr resident tif esquesing township for the past thirty years occurred at his home jan 8th following a short illness he was born in mayfield peel county moving to the norval district thirty years ago he was a farmer and member of the church of england survtvtag ana ma wife the former elizabeth hulock of caledon whom he married ah yean ago one brother robert of mayfield one sister mrs lydla mogaohern of toronto two daughters miss edna at home and mrs lawrence ttrmer at norval two sons xrwtn at borne and aubrey serving m north afttoa with the canadian army the funeral was held on monday afternoon church officers elected for 1844 the annual vestry meeting of st georges church was held in the church basement on monday evening ven w g o thompson the rector in the chair the vestryman s declaration was signed by those present and the meeting opened with theusual devo tions mr wallace thorapson vestry clerk read the minutes of the last vestry meeting the rector gave his report com prising statistics from the church ro glsters with observations on the life or the parish describing the past year as good one with all organizations working well and the finances im proved he offered his appreciation and thanks to the church wardens and offi cers and members of the organizations of the parish and to the congregation he mentioned as an outstanding con tribution of the year the changing over of the organ from tracker to electrto action the gift of mr and mrs w p bradwy he suggested a revival of the board of managementi or a property committee with the particular thought of the care and beautifying of the church property he asked the people to share with him the spiritual burden of the parish and to strong for the church there were eighteen baptisms twen tyone confirmed ten marriages and eleven burials reports were then received from the church wardens and the various church organizations all showing an excellent condition g lyings during the year had increased and the general financial condition was much bh proved the elections followed and- were with pleasure the honour conferred by his lordship the bishop on the rector archdeacon of halton and wellington mr eason peoples warden onv lounced a new system of loose leaf bookkeeping whereby quarterly state ments of givings would be sent to the envelope contributors these state ments to be kept bv them and used as receipts when making out income tax returns a vote of thanks was tendered to tfie organizations and to the rector and his family for their faithful work during the year a resolution of thanks was also ten dered the church wardens who had carried on the church s affairs with satisfaction to the vestry the meeting then adjourned a congregational meeting was im mediately convened for the purpose of electing a lay delegate to synod and ft substitute mr wallace thompson whose term had expired was reelected for three years and mr harvey dew hurst was reelected substitute for one yeai itie neeting then adjourned the rector pronouncing the benediction refreshments were then served by s mrs grant mrs laws and mrs walker the weather by h l hutt it is surprising how the weather can keep on breaking records the me- terological department has been keeping records since 1840 a
