the georgetown herald wednesday march 8th 1 944 third period rally won round lor niagara 11 7 queen honors airplane crew intermediates had splendid team gave opponents a stiff contest led series by two goals at end ofsecond period but tired under the consistant bombardment by the niagara team in final period score on game 72 if ever there was a heartbreaking cries it was the georgetown inter mediatesniagara falls series it local team had high hopes of advan cing still further into the playdowns when they went to niagara last thurs day night with a twogoal margin played two staling periods of cham plonship hockey only to have their hopes dashed into bewilderment by a super avalanche of bombarding pucks in the third and final period of the se- tend playoff game so quickly did the tide turn that for minutes on end the local team failed to get the puck out side of their own blue line while the home team played excel lent hockey for two periods and made the series look like a sure thing great credit must go to the winners for their gallant finish sparked by little louie gallardl who netted their se cond goal of the evening niagara car ried the attack almost me enure twenty minutes and emerged victors by 72 score on the game and taking the round n7 the first period was a lively one in which georgetown seemed to do every thing right and niagara everything wrong the local team pressed hard to advance their lead and at the half way mark got the period s only counter bryon playing hi first game due to injuries on the t was the scorer four penalties were meted in the pe ztod two of which were major for fighting when fenle and barnes tan gled both teams were a man short at n ihe outset of the second period and play continued in favour of george town much the same as it had throughout the first period with only a minute and a half gone schertzel grabbed a perfect pass from ricbard- aon to put his team two goals up on the game this ended the scoring ontil the fourteen minute mark when lamb counted for niagara from close in to relate the proceedings in the third period would not hold much in terest for local fans it had niagara written all over it as the local boys folded up under the strain and terrific offensive of the winners no doubt ihis team had a slight margin on the hamsters for speed combination and ability to stay at it longer and ihey certainly showed it in the final stuies of the series it not before it wat a coring spree with gallaxdi pidgeon barnes rocco and fairchild 2 being the scorers there were no penal tlcb par the winners gallardl berik and pidgeon placed a grcai game bis sell in the neu was in hb usual goo form tor the losers all did justice to cmenor of toc qtlj b probram the team and it is hard to pick stars served with hockey notes we doubt if it was generally known but the local intermediate team was actually registered with the oha as a norval team this in itself probably sets a new record for we doubt 11 nor val ever had a team entered before to the oji a and especially an interme diate a team however this team set a pretty good record having played on four games this season they won three of them but they lost the flnalane those who made the trip to niagara with the team certainly enjoyed the outing and let this corner tell you that those norval boys really know ob- ken when they see iiil we dldn t win at hookey our boys certainly scored on those chicken dinners at bt cath arines on the way home we have followed georgetown hoc key teams for a number of years but this georgetown norval huttonville combine was one of the qest probably due to having some real moral support no doubt the team made some kind of history this year oy having a reverend in the line up len belt played some good games and showed that he has had some experience at the game the arena at niagara falls is cer tainly a credit to the city it has a slightly larger ice surface than the lo cal ice palace with artificial ice roomy heated dressing rooms with showers time clock refreshme booth and all that guts to make up a fine arena the hockey team manager timekeeper- etc were all a congenial lot to a team travelling such a dls tance and congratulations were hand ed out both ways after the game the following tribute has been paid to one of georgetown s hockey greats by the guelph mercury fol lowing the
