conference held at the general brock hotel nia gara falls last friday and saturday no conference of this division of the canadian weekly newspaper asso- ciation was held last year due to wartime restrictions but it was unanimously felt this year that a conference be planned because of the many new problems in the weekly publishing field the famous ontario beauty spot was at its love liest even the sun which according to all reports had not made an appearance there for nearly two weeks very obligingly came out to shine with summer warmth the gardens and parks were beautiful with tulips and other spring flowers set against the fresh green of grass and trees yes the fruit blossoms were past their best but the exotic magnolia trees in full bloom more than made up for them with their almost unreal beauty and of course one never tires of looking at the majestic falls niagara was a grand setting for a meeting of the so- called fourth estate it was good to renew friendships with other edi tors and to meet some new ones naturally we had espe cially looked forward to meeting two other lady editors in the province mrs duncan of the wiarton echo and mrs marsden of the elora express we enjoyed their informative talks entitled women in the editorial chair and women as business managers very much we gleaned a good deal of information and inspiration from other interesting items on the program too so we i fed our time was well spent we were privileged to hear several distinguish ed speakers among whom was the hon john bracken who addressed the association dinner on friday night the two days spent at the conference came as a welcome break in routine to nearly alf the editors most of whom are having to work harder now than ever be fore due to labour shortage it helps a good deal to know that others in your line of business are facing exactly the same problems as you are and to learn and discuss ways and means of solving them it was a good conference and one
