yet at the eleventh and largest bed cross mobile blood donor clinic to be held in georgetown to date there were 133 volunteers of which 114 became donors held in the legion ball on wednesday morning february 1th lilas auislie was once again the sup ervisor with miss hamilton as technl- dan at this time when the need for plo is more urgent than it has p ever been it was very encouraging for the committee to have such a large number come forward and volunteer to give their blood practically the same capable com mittee was in charge of this clinic as of the other ten mrs john camp bell rn was nurseincharge miss annie ryan secretary registered the donors and mrs t grieve was tem perature nurse the local doctors assisted by several nurses of the dls trlct and members of the st john ambulance brigade took charge of the donors mrs a lawson headed the refreshment committee there were twentysix new donors tn this clinic and it is to be hoped that even a greater number of new donors will enrol hurried to the scene of a fire on the northern line of thr canadian national railways imc night when the alarm sounded at fc o clock townspeople first thought the fire was at the smith stone plant and thu rumour passed around town quickly the fire was caused when an incom ing freight train piled into the ca boose of a freight standing just within the yard limits the brakeman who had just made his way to the front of the train noticed the red light pull ed the safety brake cord and jumped into a snowbank visibility was poor due to a heavy snowstorm the en gineer of tht incoming train alq jumped from the cab the force of the crash tefcacoped the caboose of the standing train and the upset stove set this and the next car which was filled wuh pulpwood oh fire by the time the georgetown brigade arrived on the scene the fire was burning briskly and it was a stiff threehour fight to quell tha flames just after the brigade had left the scene the fire started up again and a second alarm at mid night called the are brigade to thf ccene again what would have been a serious fa tality was averted by the coincidence that just before the accident the en gineer of the standing freight had finished his supper in the caboose and went to the front of the train to teh another member of the crew to go back and have his supper and no one was in the caboose at the time of the crash the georgetown fire
