the georgetown herald wednesday may 30th 1945 qp mary s pettft liberal provincial candidate for halton to my friends in halton 09 we are now reaching the end of the campaign and i wish to thank my friends all over the county who have given me such wonderful help in my campaign 1 have tried to fairly present my 0 tiewo and have not wasted by time criticising anyone 1 am a liberal by conviction because the aims of the liberal party and the party platform more nearly agree with my aims in life than those of the other parties the reason i am seeking election at this time is because i want to have a part m making post war canada the finest place on earth in which to live 0 there are four post war problems in which i am specially interested and if elected i will do everything that 0 i can to see that your provncial government goes the full way with respect to these problems health service as a trained nurse and welfare worker for many years this problem is constantly on my mind and 1 will not be content until medical and hospital services are as sured to everyone under 11 circumstances to rich and poor alike education in this day and age and in a country as wealthy as canada we must see to it that full educational opportum ties are made available to everyone no bright child should be denied a higher education because of lack of finances this is largely provincial responsibility and the liberal party is now pledged that the province will pay up to 90 of the cott youth during the depression years many of our finest jboys a girls were unable to find employment and were on relief the war has taught us that unemployment is wholly unnecessary so far as 1 am concerned unemploy ment and relief will not occur again no matter what the cost we must see to it that everyone in this country who is willing to work has an equal opportunity of success rehabilitation of our armed forces while this is a federal problem i believe that the provinces can do much to help these boys who have done so much for us will find it very difficult to settle down to civilian life we must all help them the war has made canada the third largest trading nation in the world the war has practically doubled our productive capacity all of the skilled workers trained for war production should be employed for peacetime produc tion to produce goods to satisfy human needs this can only be accomplished if all groups in the country unite i make no class appeal but ask for the support of all men and women of good will in all classes agriculture labour and financial for i parties pass politicians die but the people live on er yours sincerely mary s petitr l ities gravitate to those who can shoulder them
