served to the present conflict making ur quartern somewhat cramped the indies auxiliary were invited to at tend this meeting and after lengthy uacu3slonfl it wag finally decided to leave the matter in the hands of a committee appointed to report to the next general meeting as to what can be done the trustees of the local branch ex plained that due to the war measures act priority comes first to veterans as car as building material is concerned and other steps must be taken for the n being to try and accommodate our returned men as best we can a full report by the committee appointed will be made at our next regular meet ing later this month friday evening the legion hall was che scene of a gathertngof legion members and friends to a grand social aponbored by the imperial section of the focal branch president j mur phy welcomed the visitors on behalf of the imperials and turned over the chairmanship for the evening to comrade harry hale who then called opon prof chas roe of quelph to entertain the gathering with bis per formance as n magician others on the program were mr len varey who entertained with vocal selections ac companied by playing on his guitar comrade harry h delighted the audience with his clever songs and the evening concluded with dancing to the music of the rhythm rubes lunch was served and the caterers were mrs t grieve mrs c parton and mrs j kemahead the many friends of comrade barry watldns will be pleased to hear that mrs watldns has returned from the hospital much improved in health mr and mrs watldns and family are now occupying their new home on the 8th line well done comrades i it was more than gratifying stated comrade pre sident chapman to the 46 members of the local branch who gathered at the legion ball bo attend the unveil ing of a memorial in the olen wil liams united church last sunday evening leaving the legion hall at 630 by car the legion party formed a parade at the iron bridge in the glen and headed by the colon marched three abreast to the united church at the opening of the ser vice rev f j dunlop extended a hearty welcome to the legion tar then- presence at the service soloist for the service was comrade sam olsby of llmehouse the honour roll de dicated to the men who served in this war was unveiled by comrade s q mjs henry shepherd mjbe who was nbo itarade marshal the legion uns honored at this ceremony with the presence of some 15 members of tile ladies auxiliary at the close of the parade qomrade jack and mrs pry opened their home in the glen to the legion members present who enjoyed light lunch before returning to georgetown jb mrs houston speaks to local gboup the local council of women held their first fall meeting in the munici pal building on friday oct lflth with fifteen ladles present the pre sident opened the meeting with silent prayer then read a letter from mrs r j marshall b a provincial presi dent toronto the treasurer report ed a nice balance on hand miss ket tle lawson read some picture of her work among the orientals in toronto with whom she worked for many years and has very pleasant memories she also gave a very informative talk on ancient china the meeting then adjourned after mrs vannatter thanked mrs houston for her address the next meeting will be on november the sixteenth with miss chant school nurse as guest speaker halton flowing match scheduled for octobeb 9 the annual match a the halton plowmen s association is scheduled for monday october 29 on cluny oa8tle farm home of ward rud- dul si sons on the fifth line of es- qucslng township we understand from president w j robertson of lovville that the ims prize list has been revised to be in keeping with modern trends towards increased arm mechanization cln ad dition to three walking plow classes there will be five tractor classes one of the latter is open only to halton contestants under 18 years a second to halton plow boys and girls under 21 years and others irrespective of age who have never previously com peted at a plowing match the prize list also includes a three furrow trac- to class open only to contestants from halton peel wentworth and welling ton counties a display of farm machinery and labour saving devices under the chair manship of stanley l hall mpp is being arranged this feature attract ed keen interest at the 1941 match and we understand is being developed to
