georgetown recreational council has ghost written this editorial which opens a campaign for funds to carry on th council s work this year if everything planned is to be accomplished a considerable sum is required and 5000 has been set as the objective to be raised the town council by shouldering the salary cost of a recreational director has already taken a consideabte burden from the g r c but now the money must be raised to provide sports equip ment and facilities for a well rounded community re creational program we are opening a fund in the herald this week in which donations large and small will be welcomed your donation can be mailed or left at the herald office and the council hopes that the response will be gener ous ed the modern movement which is sweeping over this country of ours and which resulted locally in the municipal council making provision for the employ ment of a recreational director can and no doubt will have a farreaching effect on the character of our youth and upon what we term our community life the organized efforts of the recreational coun cil are devoted to the organizing and promoting of a wide range of projects including athletics hobbies handicraft and the bringing together of groups of citi zens of all ages interested in some subject calculated io bring some measure of pleasure after their day s work is done we are fast realizing that it is not sufficient to live our lives with no concern for our fellow man it is essential for us to consider his io as our own and en deavour in our hours of leisure to join with him in plea sant pursuits and thus build up a community of friend jy beings all working together for the building of a hap py community which is the basis for a happy world the widespread approval which has so far been accorded the efforts of the recreational council augurs well for its future and the ambitious plans of this or ganizationv will soon be put into effect to enable such a program to be completed a considerable amount of money will have to be raised by public subscription for the purchase of necessary equipment and it is hoped the citizens individually will express their approval of such a program by making such a contribution to the funds of the council as their means will warrant such an appeal is now being made to the citi zens of the community further details of which will be found in the columns pf
