statement in con nection with the vacant property ow ned hr the town and that i thought the possibility of baudtn houses the- re should lie further investigated was correctly repotted in the betald and i retract nothing contained therein may i repeat here mr editor what i also said at april i6th meeting in the presence of a large deputation in my opinion it lsnot he function of a civil servant of the ontario department health to recommend or not to recom mend the- bunding of bouses to any area hi the corporattoif of georgetown and to do so i felt was interference with municipal governcnent policy- it is an unusual situation certainly crea ting a preddent in the town of geor getown if however a situation to this or any other municipality does ex ist thereby endangering public health and the municipal council refuses or are negligent to their duty to remedy it then it is the duty of the provincial and local board of health to take drastic action to have the situation corrected in this connection mr editor i submit as art humble coun cillor that for a decade of time by virtue of my office as mayor it was my privilege and pleasure to be asso ciated with the present moh for whom i have the highest respect and second only to him no one could have been more interested in the health of this community than i if the medical officer of health be lieves i questioned his honesty of pur pose nothing could be further from the truth it u my desire however to point out that he in his public position is jointly iesponetnle to the provincial board of health and the municipal council by whom he is appointed and if for any reason i am prevented from offering constructive criticism of him or any other paid servant of the cor poration if i cannot debate in coun- wffl be of no lnftenat of whi ch i have a copy gives no detailed for not zooonaneomhg che er ection of houses ih the area mention ed that coupled with the fact that a oonssderahto amount of the taxpayers money wm be saved by building on town p and the fact that some one m this department told a repre- sentattve of wartime housing ltxl that this was a matter for the local board of health renders the whole nnestion extremely confusing therefore i still consider the- matter not closed and if a motion which 1 shall introduceat the next meeting of the council carries we will have an independent consulting sanitary engi neer make a detailed report if mr editor through the nwuirrri of the herald i am permitted to have this reply published i shall appreciate it with the assurance that no further letters concerning tins matter win be written by me preferring to debate it in council which is the pro time and place i am pursuing thisjnpject for the reason only of a stooe honest desire to be a with many others to providing houses for the young men who with their backs to the english channel through italy prance belgium holland and ger many fought for the liberty and free dom which we so richly enjoy so that
