monday august 5th since that tune the council have been laying plans for oneof the largest track and field meets ever held in the town one look at the programme reminds one of the british empire games held at hamilton some years before the war there are events for every taste every age and every event will be a thriller- for the spectators in pre paring this huge sports programme the council have endeavoured to select events which are not only spectacular but are within the physical capabili ties of local competitors events such as the discus throw javelin high and low hurdles have not been included it was felt that our boys and girls have not had the opportunity to train for events of this type it is expected that the medals cups and trophies over 10000 worth will attract a large field of competitors from nearby cities and towns particularly in the dashes relays and tugofwar there is also a closed tugofwar event in which it is hoped a number of local heavies will man the rope due to the large number of events it will be necessary for all competitors to have entry forms they will be avail able within a few days and it is expec ted that there will be a scramble for these sheets married to the former oorlnne anguish who with their son howard has been making her home in gait during his absence mrs john r campbell succumbs to long illness the death of mrs john r camp bell which occurred at her home on edith street georgetown on sunday july 7th has caused widespread sor row among her many friends in the district mrs campbell had been a patient sufferer during a lingering ill
