sight seeing we parked alongside of brocks monument on queenaton heights there the weather caught up with us and we slept soundly to the music of rain on the roof as it had set in for an all days rain we hiked for home and en joyed seeing the lush green fields of fall wheat and the bright colours of autumn foliage along the road the old reliables at home had kept the records for us and here they are one of the worst accidents in soma time occurred last night about uw on no 7 highway when gilfords taxi at brampton swerved oft ite road and turned over several times the acci dent happened in supposition by us was the case during victory loans a less than a year ago in the dying hours of the ninth victory loan a group of factory workers in brentford ontario sent a formal request to na tional war finance committee offi cials asking that some form of bond savings be continued even though the war was over these men and women like thousands more throughout the country felt that their bond purcha ses were a topnotch savings plan and they didnt want to lose a good thing once it was within their grasp beginning this week canadians ev erywhere will have another opportun ity to salt away their dollars in a good interesthearing savings plan to be called canadian savings bonds the nwjc and its complex organlaa- ried he has one daughter lt ken- tion is like saving stamps blood neth served in england with the 48tfa banks scrap drives and all the other highlanders and is now employed warthne operations a thing of the past with ambassador books travelling out of toronto letter to the editor the editor georgetown herald october 15 1946 sir i do not wish to prolong the discus sion with the teenager but will an swer his last letter then insofar as i am concerned the matter is closed when i said that work rawer than a ft array of buildings was the key to success in lite i meant hut that the teenager seems to have oonr- tradloted himself in that in his first letter he implied that it was hnpossi- fate for g h s students to obtain proper training due to lack of facili ties and now he tells us that results this year at ohb were among the highest h the province no teenager i regret to say the parents do not think first of the school facilities when looking toward a new area in which to settle the first thought is will i be able to find suit able employinent the second will ll find a home for my children and 1 myself with these two matters ta ken care of the parents can consider education but the desire of the people to in crease their stake in canada and at the same tune add to their financial reserves has not lessened a depart ment of finance spokesman said here today in describing the new bonds that here in ottawa he added we rec ently had a scientifically conducted poll made by experts among present bondholders of the 3000 a year and under class and found that 82 per cent wanted another opportunity to buy government bonds this year it is pointed out that the canada savings bonds are not needed for the governments fiscal commitments nor is ottawa using this bond drive as an antiinflationary emasure we know that the people want these bonds so we are offering them purely as a ser vice to the thrift minded men and women of the country it is explained the canada savings bonds and the methods of selling them differ in many respects from the recent victory bond campaigns this time except for professional bond salesmen there will be no knocking on doors to solicit applications bonds will be on sale at all banks bond houses trust com panies and similar financial institu tions and in most cases the buyer goes to the seller instead of the reverse as payroll savings canvass will be made in all plants where such a canvass is desired and both payroll savings buy ers as welt as others will again be al lowed to buy on the instalment plan all canada savings bonds will be reg istered and will not be transferable or assignable but they like the victory bonds can be sold without trouble at any bank for cash should the need arise it is felt also that although they are not transferable they will be ac cepted as security for bank loans be cause they are badges of the holders thrift and responsibility there will be four denominations 50 100 500 and 1000 no buyer may take more than 2000 the in terest coupons wil be payable annual ly the interest rate is 2 per cent remember the whole campaign is entirely up to the individual citizen an official here dleclares this time there win be no general canvass no bands speeches or flagwaving we feel that most people want to tread cautiously today and save all they can for the future here is the chance max mill social and personal umehouse mrs john rlddell of milton was guest
