division of the cwna the editors column one little word in a lengthy letter to the press last week reeve maclaren corrected what he referred to as a misiepre sentation on our part in an editorial the previous week the editorial referred to was one in which we spoke of the reeve as committing a tactical error in voting ag ainst the high school district motion unforunately the error was also on our side it was not our intention to criticize mr maclaren for voting against george town councils motion of opposition to a high school district unless the school was built in georgetown what we were criticizing was his action in later voting for the county council motion establishing a high school for acton milton and esquesing writing as we usually do in a hurry the word against was er roneously used instead of for we do think that as a representative of george town council reeve maclaren was incorrect in sup porting the county council motion in this case he was representing a town which through its council had ex pressed opposition to the idea and regardless of his personal views he was obligated to represent this oppo sition we do not suggest that any councillor should be a rubber stamp and not have a mrnd of his own in ar riving at decisions of municipal and county importance we do say however that any time the electors through their council specifically request a certain line of thought in county matters it is proper and correct for our representatives there to convey this feeling impar tially t flr v vacation time the summer months are always hectic around the weekly newspaper office with vacations leaving a short staff throughout most of the summer 1 ast week by omitting our editorial we managed to cram the us ual budget of news and advertising into an eight page paper instead of the usual ten or twelve tomorrow reg broomhead starts on his vacation with garfield and les following in august the lunior member of the firm harold davison has left in permanently and managed to acquire our share of the sun one day we visited the fine new plant erected by the mcdiarmids father and son to house the port elgin times made us envious when we compared the beautiful quarters there with our rather cramped situ ation here the times has a fine gift shop which they run in conjunction with their newspaper and printing business in fact sidelines seem to be popular with stanley park erin the george town recreational council is holding a gala picnic for the young fry of the town coming at the end of the usual series of sunday school picnics this should be a real climax to the picnic season busses will leave the old town hall at 1 30 p m and in order to arrange for tufficient transportation school children were asked to register by noon today adults and children under school age are all welcome at the picnic but as accom modation on the busses is limited adults are asked to arrange their own transportation the grc is supplying drinks and ice cream and youngsters are requested to take alone their own picnic lunch to go with this there are plenty of prizes donated by the merchants for the gmes and races and the kids will be taking their bathing
