macfceruae died in his sleep at ids home on mqi street on sunday morning october 5th head of the contracting arm of j b mackenzie and son mr mackenzie leaves many monuments behind to his successful career as a builder such structures as the post office the roxy theatre buqdsng the mackenzie building richard son s hardware and parnells store were of his construction as wen as dozens of houses both here and acton where tbe firm maintains branch born in bsqueslng township 71 years ago j b as he was fami liarly known was the son of the late ii samuel mackenzie and barbara boyd he attended dublin school and learned tbe carpentry trade at an early age working first around the countryside then establishing a small shop hi acton tn 1010 be bought out h p lawsons planing mill here forty years ago he mar ried the former eusn mcqueen and m 1915 they moved from aoton to make their home in georgetowrt the business prospered and in 1930 adopted the present name of j b mackenzie and son after serving for four years as a council member mr mackenzie be came mayor of georgetown in 1830 and served as chief magistrate for the next four years he was instru mental during his term of office in keeping relief coats down by a pro gram of work projects and private collections for renef he was a mem ber for ten years of the public school board and as a member of the board of management of presbyterian church was one of those who arranged installation of the lawson memorial chimes at the church a charter m of the lions club he was one of the spon sors of the comnaunrty christmas tree which the club took over from the pubuc school board he served in 1927 as president of the ontario retao lumber dealers association mr mackenzie was a member of walker masonic lodge aoton and of halton chapter georgetown was an enthusiastic golfer and was a familiar figure on the greens at the georgetown and brampton dabs an avid reader and good em tlonatlst he had a fund of anecdotes about his early ute in aeorgetown and acton he often recalled his first job hi georgetown as being the remodelling of the wukwghby livery stables the bufknng which houses tbe legion hall and tom bewsons
