is arranging a series of public meet ings in various centres in the county with the object of having larger high school areas organized the erin editor comments during the summer vacation the discussions on this provocative question quieted down and folks were of the opinion that it might be let lie for some time at least but it appears that the depart ment of education has brought pressure to bear to force the issue further parents and students in the local areaare with few exceptions in favour of keep ing erin continuation school operating in preference to the proposed larger school we particularly note that the people of wel lington county are not to have high school districts rammed down their throats without at least some op portunity for citizens in general to express themselves at public meetings perhaps if that were the case in hal ton our neighbouring municipalities would not have blindly rushed into such a radical change on the saysq of their councils and school boards bewitched by smoothtalking department of education spokes men we trust that the people of erin and of other wellington centres will not be misled into the same paths that milton and acton have taken v congratulations halton county has been in the baseball spot light in a big way this year with three teams from as many towns showing plenty of class milton juniors have already won the ontario crown and this week decides whether it will be three ontario championships in the county one of these is practically assured as acton soundly trounced delhi on saturday and should easily take their game in that town this afternoon to take over jhe intermediate c championship oak- ville meanwhile is playing its last of a twogame se ries for the intermediate b championship in oak- ville this afternoon against meaford having won the f irat game added to the outstanding hockey record which teams from georgetown and acton have chalked up in the past the baseball record this year establishes halton as one of the leading sporting counties of the province and we congratulate our three neighbouring towns for the honours they are bringing to themselves and the county to better serve you the herald sets a new milestone this week with thefreturn of harold davison to augment our shop staff to five which as far as can be ascertained is the biggest staff ever employed by georgetowns news paper as readers will realize it takes a lot of work to turn out the ten and twelve page papers which have been the rule this year and to serve the printing needs of a growing town and district in the future we will be able to give even better printing service than has been possible this year and with a continuation of the generous advertising support enjoyed at present the herald will be bigger and better than ever no little thanks i due to our many correspon dents for making the herald what it is our rural news gatherers mrs a w benton limehouse mrs j bellboddy ash the editorial job would be next to impos sible it isnt a oneman job by any means this busi ness of publishing a weekly newspaper and we hope that more and more of our readers particularly those who
