evening was given by the wor master mr t wold being most suitably responded to by mrs l de vries on behalf of all the la dies present entertainment in the hall followed and then cards were played there were many novelty stunts for prizes as well as many draws for lucky numbers much fun was caused by finding out the dif ferent aimlverarles distance people lived from the hall telephone num bers and so forth attention was particularly centered upon mr nor man herbert when it was discovered that he was the prizewinner of the man for cards as he had assisted the magician who entertained earner in the evening and it was declared he got a little practice thereby but the prizewinning lady mrs frank wilson had an even higher score there was a friendly gettogether spirit at this annual night of the masonic lodge bringing together the members and their ladles in george town and the surrounding district we see this week that the mild fall weather has led to many unusual flowers bloom ing last week we reported crocuses at steve korrlea this week we note roses in hkwm in the gardens of mrs walter gay and mrs george wal ters any dance floor in this district- vahied paper to comment on a very mean and cowardly act namely the shooting of bound in the george town district on saturday there have been stmoar instances before fortunately not many m one cse the sportsman was able to prove the identity of the guilty party and collected damages some fanners are unfortunately of the opinion that they can shoot any dog that happ to cross their pro- perry i would just like to point out that this idea is completely erron eous and could prove to be very costly to the nerson shooting the dog apart from the legal aspects of the case x would like to speak of the ethical or moral side of it i can state emphatically that the sportsmen in town are very anxious to gain the confidence of the far mers and win do everything possible to respect the farmers property and possesslans the farmers themselves are of divided opinion the majority of them know and welcome the hun ters on their property but a few with or without reason take the op posite lew and post their properties with no trespassing signs by no stretch of the imagination can anyone expect a hound to heed these signs a hunter may be hun ting on open property and have his dog start a fox that will run for miles possibly at times on forbidden property my point is that even on posted property no farmer has the right to shoot a dog hunting through there the dog thai was shot down on saturday is well known in this dls lrtct and he was shot in a a locality where a hound couldn t possibly do n j dn mage the man that ow ned hi dot is a well known sportsman wlio served overseas during the en ire war and pild out c and a frame house has to have poured cement but- ments and bolted down and there is an inspector who calls to see that the house is built and braced for storm i haven t seen one wrecked house and if
