farmer public speaking contest a crowded auditorium greeted the lx contestants in the ualton junior f ftnner public speaking competition held in the milton high school on friday evening ol last week in the young ladles competition nerval club was represented by miss jean chester who spoke on the farm girl palermo club by miss lorn a lawrence who cook as her subject cttearaoteif and the acton cjfub by miss bessie keld on the subject the life of winston churchill in the young mens contest lloyd vivian representing palermo juniors took as bis subject russia stanley jay of milton on the subject of newfoundland while building a world citizenship was the subject of the address delivered by ernest west of the acton junior farmers club the evenings programme also ln- ciuded a contest in amateur enter tainment which brough forward en tries from palermo acton and nor- val clubs in this latter contest six young people representing the pal ermo juniors presented a skit based on the song fussin and afeudln don van goozen of acton rendered two very fine selections on his ajto- hom while miss ismey kean from the norval club presented two very clever readings of her own composi tion miss edna altken president of the halton juniors was a very able chairman for the evening and the large crowd enjoyed to tiie full the six splendid addresses and other hers presented in the amateur entertainment mrs percy merry hornby and messrs leo klein and geo e elliott of milton had no easy task in arriving at their decision and in making their awards which were very ably announced by mr el liott in the public speaking secton first place in the young ladles contest went to miss jean chester of norval while ernest west of acton took the award in the young mens con test i evening november 31st i another pleasing feature of the evening was the presentation of the halton federation of agriculture trophy to the members of the ac ton club who won the halton junior parmer interclub baseball serietf the presentation of the trophy was made on behah of the halton fed eration by agricultural representa tive j e wnltelodl halton juniobfl at the royal winter fair as usual halton junior fanners will be well represented in the vari ous junior activities at the royal winter fair which opens on novem ber 18tto- in the lntercounty live stock judging competitions for tne jeffrey bun memorial trophy which is open to county teams of three young men under 28 years of age the halton representatives will be wm alexander ward brownridge and douglas currle all of george town r r 2 halton s winning dairy calf club team in the provincial contests will again be in action at the royal where they wil meet the winning provincial dairy oalf club teams from the other provinces haltons representatives in this contest which is open to teams of two club mem bers under 21 years of age will be the ontario champions namely henk devrles of georgetown and david pelletterlo of milton this year for the first time halton juniors will be represented in the contest for the kings guineas this 1e open to the winners of the baby beef section for clubs organized un der the boys oalf club policy hal- tons representatives here will be alex buchanan of moffat and evelyn mccann of milton who were the 1st and 2nd prize winners respectively in the calf club achievement day in the baby beef section which was held at the milton fair the acton boys beaver oat club will also be represented in the spe cial gram section open to grain club members from all parts of can ada george burkholder of
