asked to new york as a special feature of the canada show which is being staged in anticipation of the election of a canadian as president of the lions international lions clubs of the district are putting up half the funds necessary to send them there and the june i oth event is staged fo com plete the financing it is a great honour for george town to be so prominently represented at this big ev ent and the girls and their leader roy magloughlen are to be congratulated on the honour wjiich is theirs cleaning up main street in a recent report by the town foreman in which he said his department was going to concentrate this year on keeping main street cleaner he recommended the placing of waste containers at certain places in the downtown district these are particularly needed in front of restaurants and at the theatre and it is hoped that his suggestion will be implimented with town finances stretched to the limit it would be a worth while contribution from the merchants who are at pre sent forming an association to include this in their plans for the future main street during the summer months is often a disgrace and one cannot ask the public to cooperate in keeping it clean unless some means of waste dispos al is provided it would be utopian to expect that con tainers would completely solve the problem but they would help and in time the public could be educated to use them more and more merchants at the same time when sweeping their walks could collect the acc umulated dirt and place it in the containers rather than umulatcd dirt and place it in the containers the stayathome camp the recreational commission and lions club are to be congratulated on their plans for a stayatl ionic camp this summer for georgetown children it will fill a need long felt in the community for organized recrea tion during the summer months for the children of the town and under capable leadership will be beneficial to the children who attend there is no end to the number of things which can be attempted in such a program the local ministerial association will coop erate in giving bible training to the children in the mornings and there are plans for sports hikes craft work and possibly swimming excursions jto nearby pools among others the project will be one which will cost some money and while no appeal to the pub lic for funds is planned we know the two groups
