mayor moved by goodlet and mccum- ber following the reading of a letter from the liquor control board con firming mr early s appointment mayor gibbons said that he was 1 e onnlu interested in the question and asked that council appoint an acting mayor for the balance of the meeting reeve armstrong was appointed and the mayor vacated the council chamber while the sub ject of a new assessor was under discussion the reeve said that the mayor was interested in the praltlgnt and that in his opinion the town could hire no more capable man mr gibbons hod given faithful service for a number of years in council and while he was not en titled to compensation for this the fact merited consideration several councillors expressed similar thoughts and p recorded vote found all in favour of the appointment a letter of resignation was then read from the mayor asking that it take effect as of october 3rd tbis date was chosen he said be cause the municipal act states that j the mayors chair
