pic tures will be a post card given to us by mrs sam gisby of limehouse showing the pond which used to exist on the main street property where fred sinclairs gar- age is now located the post card was addressed in 1905 to miss maggie majrtin now mrs mcarthur of acton and we note that it is addressed to esquesing post office perhaps a reader could further enlighten tis on the location of this post office which does not exist today a mr thomaa mealpine a resident of limehouse who spent his boyhood at stewarttown has given swane background on the picture which shows the pond across from the j b mackenzie planing mill n a frame building shown in the picture about 35 men were employed finishing furniturepreyious to 1 900 a 5 mr aldous rented it arid mr h p lawson also awned- itat one time mr aldous later was anundertaker located in the robbs drug store building and went from here to barrie a 2x4 scantling flume carried water from the pond to water street to operate a flour mill an overhead bridge carried the furniture from the planing mill to the factory two houses on georgei street are built with the timber from the old flume which was about two feet in diameter mr mcalpme does not believe that the pond was part of the credit river although it is designated as such on the post card the pond property was bought by the radial company as a rightofway foftheir road figures dont lie the need for a new public school in georgetown was forciblypomtedonr4ast week when hairman ed win wilson of the school board appeared before coun cil to present the facts as the board sees them the sal ient fact about the matter is that a survey made last fall reveals that in the next four years the school popu lation will grow by i 50 present facilities at the school are already taxed to the limit and last year it was nec essary to convert the assembly hall into an extra class room the school board says that by 1954 six extra rooms will necessary an addition to the present school building is out of the question because of the fact that there is not enough playground space even now and the building of a sizeable addition would limit this space still more the problem boils down to the fact that if an extra school is not built classes with have to meet in other locations as they are doing in glen williams at the present time until such time as a school is provided at least two members of council have stated that they do not favour going ahead with any building plans without a vote of the people the expenditure of 180000 of which georgetown taxpayers woukj shoulder about one hundred thousand is a considerable item in the budget of a town which already has a de denture debt around the half million mark it is our opinion that any matter involving a large expenditure shoud be pur to a vote excepting those things of such a serious nature that any delay would endanger public health a new school important as it is does not come in this category hence it shoud be voted op at the same time council if a majority of council members think it is essential should be prepared to back the school board to the limit and publicly declare them- selves as favouring the plan thjj people have elected council to administer their affairs and look to them for guidance in matters of major importance a council lor then should be expected to have an opinion on the building of a new school- and publicly state this opinion for the benefit of the ratepayer tjpqurrv v to see blanivvjhdow acrdss from the herald office whcrethe jvaher shoe store used to be we had scavcely
