c she georgetown herald wednesday sept 20th 1950 the editors corner a sad sab loss georgetown has lost a fine citizen one whom we all loved whom every man respected and admired has been talasn from our midst with stunning suddenness there is a void which can never be quite filled an empty chair in church and lodge and in the school which he loved and served so well news pf the death of howard wrigglesworth brought grief to evfecy home in his twelve years here as public school principal he had become one of the best known of our townspeople net only because of his faithful attendance toltis school duties butbecause his public spirit led him to take an active part in every cause for good he was one of the best members of his church where he hajl served as a choir member and superintendent of the sunday school ln die masonic lodge he held thehighest office he was an active wor- ker on the fall fair board and was one of he founders of the georgetown recreation gommfssion it was our privilege to be closely associated with mr wrigglesworth as a school board member and also in our capacity as editor for he was proud of his school and was always helpful in providing publicity about school activities he had a keen sense of humour and often dropped into the office for a moment on his way home from school and the day always seemed brighter for his having been here it is sad that at the early age of forty when he was just on the threshold of life the town will not have fur ther benefit of his talents we can only be thankful that he was here for at least a short time the good wo he left behindwillhonour his memory more than any words which we can fut on paper another grand fair saturdays sun was matched by the broad smiles on the faces of the fall rair directors when after six page 8 gospel services every sunday 700vm oddfellows hall 1 featuring gospel songs anil hymns evangelistic message boys and girls service at 30 pm an hour of interesting items just for you all bright and clear and another successful fair was held crowds thronged the grounds for the big event and everyone was well pleased with the exhibits and entertainment it was another milestone in the history of the fair which is in its second century and growing all the time a fortunate stroke of fate led to the last minute appearance of a carnival company and their ferris wheel and other rides lent the proper touch which was miss ing last year the kiddies stuffed themselves with candy floss potato chips and candy apples and took home large quantities of balloons kewpie dolls and canaries the grownups enjoyed the races and grand stand show and chatted with the many former residents who come home for fair day it was a wonderful fair the cne could do better even before we heard gordon sinclair rip danny kaye apart on his broadcast last week we had won dered why the directors of the canadian national ex hibition couldnt provide anything better in the way of name acta for their annual show danny kaye is a comedian who relies as much on his facial contortions as he does on his voice and his choice as star of the grand stand show this year was riot a happy one- and when oue i dollars for his two week appearance it just doesnt add up for the same money or less there must surely be other talent which would lend itself better to the vast confines of the cne stage for the price of one enter tainer whose talent is suited to movies and night clubs there should be obtainable half a dozen or more names how about a popular singer like frances langford or kay starr comedians like our own wayne and sinis ter who rely solely on their gags or the great gilder- sleeve a trio like the andrews sisters plus more tum blers and jugglers in other words a variety show with half a dozen name acts instead of one and acts better suited to a large stage father of mrs rugg dies at pembroke ur and mn henry rugg were in pembroke last week attending the funeral of her father frederick august schrle mr schrle was bur ied in pembroke cemetery on wed nesday following his death the pre vious sunday he was born in staf ford township in 1885 injured leg sidelines mcmillan horse for
