farmers in one specialized branch have banded together for an advertising campaign which will use newspapers magazines and radio to boost sales of dairy products it is a new departure for canadian farmers and a spokesman for the dairy farmers of canada pre dicts that it is bnly the beginning the plan has already been working successfully in the states where several million dollars is alocated jannualy by dairy farmers for a sales campaign one important difference in canada will be the use of weekly newspapers to carry the sales story over half of canadian weeklies will carry the opening cam paign and next year an increased advertising budget will add most of the remaining papers the advertising is designed to tie in with seasonal surpluses and to push products like butter which since the introduction of margarine face strong competition from competing products i dairy farmers have pledged a percentage of their market price to support the new plan and have hired a prominent ontariq farmer who has had a ex perience to direct the campaign fina plans are now being made and mr o w shugg who is in charge of the scheme gave full details of how it will operate to weekly editors who meet your candidates in which pertinent information about each office seeker is itemized it will be difficult though not impossible for the usual three or four columrjs to be written and set on the meeting itself though we have always counted on the weelcend to do the job thoroughly and accurate ly it may not be possible however to give candidates the benefit of a news writeup inasmuch as the qualifi cation deadline will now be on tuesday evening white it is too late to amend the bylaw this year we hope that next years council may see fit to return to tne friday nomination because of these
