bank of commerce staff aw samuel alcorn died in lindsay last thursday in his 88th year mr alcorn was born in county antrim ireland and before coming to canada operated a large farm in ireland be was a justice of the peace in his homeland and took an active part in a scheme to encour age the use of irish butter in eng land in place of danish butter which in those days had a corner on the market he came to canada 42 years ago and became manager of the stan dard bank at newcastle prior to that he had met and married his wife a native of oshawa while on a v isit to this country it is inter esting to note that their son who vvas born at newcastle was on the staff of that bank prior to coming to georgetown seven years 4atcr he became manager of the standard branch at lindsay which was later amalga mated with the bank of commerce and continued as manager there until his retirement in 1931 and 1932 he served a term as mayor of lindsay he was an active la worker in st pauls church of england and for many years was a lay reader he was president for several years of the lindsay branch of the upper can ada bible society mr alcorn was predeceased by ills wife and one daughter margar et the funeral service was held on saturday in lindsay anglican minister son attended school here a resident of town several years ago franklin clowes noxon late of j1a balsam avenue toronto died at toronto general hospital last wednesday he was in his 59th year f mr toxons father the late rev clowes noxonfwss minister of the anglican churches at norvul stcw- arltown and hornby from 1904 to 1909
