the lead ing business establishments on main street when we first heard the rumour a few weeks ago that dick has sold out we didnt pay too much atten tion for the rumour has bobbed up every spring for sev eral years however this time its true and the new man enrico caruso took over monday morning he has some hard shoes to fill but he is a young man with energy and ambition ana under his guidance the busi ness will continue to thrive it is good to know that dick and tina will be stay ing in town it is people like them who make george- town what it is in a public way they have contributed so much to local events particularly when they con cern the lions club dick has been a bulwark of the club ever since he joined when the lions had a piano to move he was there with his truck when the club collected paper salvage when a dressing room was needed for a garden party when heavy equipment had to be moved from one place to another dickp truck was always pressed into service there are countless private ways too where the licatas have been good citizens never has there been a fund campaign for any worthy cause where their donation has not been prompt and generous boxes of tasty fruit have been sent to countless sick people and invalids children visiting the store rarely left without an apple an orange or the box of chiclets which became the licata trademark and above all their store carried a reputation for quality which was won at the expense of hours of off- duty work trimming sorting packing the tempting fruits and vegetables which people jammed the store day after day to purchase they have earned a rest and the good wishes of everyone go with them in their future life thanks for your help since mailing out subscription bills the past few weeks readers have been very obliging in remitting pay ments and putting their heralds paidinadvance there are still some to come of course but we are confident that when we are ready to join an organization this summer which requires a paidup subscription list we can boast 100 per cent the reason for joining as was said before is that national advertisers are more and more asking for some guarantee of circulation before they will buy space in a weekly newspaper some companies which would otherwise be interested in the herald sidetrack it for pnnrri t p w tiwmui fw th go eminent is tending to ignore nonmembers hand why municipal officials are wor ried about the road a stretch about a hundred yards is under wtaer about a foot and it was a sight in itself to see cars spurting through it the township has v dumped some loads of gravel on the underwater road- way the walk through the woods was pleasant ex cept for the maneating mosquitoes which are a by product of the work of these busy animals there were many people there and we spotted the seward wilsons and horace blyths among others noticed on our drive home a deserted church and unused railway station manse wood with whose history we are unfamiliar a depressing sight is a huge red brick farmhouse going to rack and ruin its only a few miles from ash grove and on a good road surely some of the desperate local house hunters could make
