much better weather than we had- in july last year re member how it rained dont rfcnow if rainfall has an effect on a lakes level but we do knpw that lake hurons water level rls up considerably from last year and our guess is that the quanyty of snow slnd rain we had last winter and spring is largely responsible k if youll remember last year we wrote you from the hflce pd told you of our mice problems this year however the mice must have sensed they would be up agfinst a tough and experienced enemy for there was nary a trace of them inside or outside the cup- boards the only nocturnal visitor was a large skunk which tipped over the garbage pail and made ah awful mess and clatter in the wee sma hours a couple of times then we outwitted himj by placing the tin inside the woodshed at night so we heard and smelled no more of jimmy skunk since coming home and read ing about the man wandering around in the nude in the southampton area we dont think wed have been so complacent about staying alone in the cottage for a few nights and just before- we came home a neighbour of ours at the beach told us about how frightened she and her mother had been one night incidentally she and her small- daughter and her mother were also alone during the week it was about four in the morning when mrs tucker wak ened to hear footsteps in her kitchen the cottage isnt wired for electricity and she was too terrified to light a lamp so she called out who is it naturally she received no answer but there was no letup to the notte then the hubbub awakened her daugh ter and they decided to beat a hasty retreat out the back door to a neighbouring cottage from there they kept watch on their cottage till dawn but could see no one emerge so they called it a night and got some sleep before returning home iri broad daylight to their surprise nothing in tht cottage had been disturbed the next night was friday and daughters husband was there for the weekend came three oclock in the morning and the same fright- ening noises were heard by every one so friend husband arose lit a lamp and thoroughly explored the cottage but could find nobody lurking around to all appearances the source of the noise was a com plete mystery wfth no solution ap parent that 1s no solution was apparent till the next day when the family were sunning themsel- ves on a side terrace and they heard scrabbling a great success twentyone boys registered for the camp and it was evident that all enjoyed the exper ience of tenting together there was plenty of fun good swimming boat ing crafts and games and
