ijithering we had never heard the name applied to that portion of michigan state be tween sauinnv bay and the western shore of luke huron as the thumb as our destination was the vil lage of applegate in michigan our party of six travelled via sarnia and port hurrfii september 2nd going via stratfdrd exeter to grand bend and forest orf the blue wuter high way- no 21 arriving about i ik at the home of mr alex mcallister grandson of my uncle sandy one of the three pioneering sons of wil liam and mrs mcallister who came from cilcgow with the third son robert a year or two after his brothers john and alexander who came in 1842 with another family on the same boat from glasgow charles scobie and wife and chil dren this latter family was destined to be united by marriage in 1852 when john pied by the other michigan resi dent loran and mrs mcallister also grandson of my iihcle sandy the others remained- where we had our supper with alex next day i was privileged to view the setup on an american farm in all 14 acres with at least two pow erful tractors and a combine self- propelled in the barn were 3 milk ing units for i7 holsteins and out in th yard were 50 pigs of various ages sonic fed on corn on the cob two large silos were ready for the 19a 1 corn crop which was not very good due to a cold wet spring much hay was baled t wo hnil ni fni- hii 1 son and family had modern equip- merit including- television sets while the other across a short lane was conveniently equipped for the par ents on september 3 labour day the clan gathering took place in a park operated by the church of latter day saints which was provided with a large pavilion with plenty of table space and electricity for heating and running water for tea or coffee and dishwashing after wards in about an hour after the var ious guests had arrived the dinner bell was rung and soon we were enjoying the dinner with abund- t ance of hot beverage to wash down the excellent foods provided by the wives of various families present after dinner the presiding chair man called uirin me to speak a few words outlming briefly some of the history of ihe clan as above given he had learned that i was the old est
